The festival of biodiversity and pumpkin seeds in Piozzo
Di Fiore in Zucca is the event that brings Piozzo to life every spring. This small town in the Langhe area of the Province of Cuneo is known throughout Piedmont as the home of the pumpkin. Organized by the Pro Loco of Piozzo, the event takes place in Piazza V Luglio 1944 and along the streets of the historic center, transforming the town into a large open-air green market dedicated to biodiversity, seeds, and the culture of the land.
For one day, nurserymen, florists, farmers, artisans, and enthusiasts gather in the heart of Piozzo to celebrate spring. Among the stalls, you will find seeds, flowers, vegetables, aromatic herbs, spices, and natural products, in a journey that combines a passion for gardening with sustainable agriculture and the promotion of local varieties.
The most anticipated moment is the free distribution of pumpkin seeds: over 600 varieties, grown directly in Piozzo and sourced from all over the world, are offered to the public to support agricultural biodiversity and encourage home cultivation. It is a rare heritage that makes Piozzo a reference point for horticulture and biodiversity enthusiasts.
The festival offers a rich program of meetings and workshops for all ages. Highlights include discussions on sowing and cultivation, round tables on biodiversity, activities for children and families, and convivial moments. The event is part of the Aspettando Terra Madre (Waiting for Terra Madre) initiative promoted by Slow Food, in anticipation of the major international gathering in Turin.
Di Fiore in Zucca anticipates the famous Pumpkin Fair, the autumn event that has made Piozzo famous far beyond the borders of the Piedmont region. The spring festival tells the other side of this vocation: not just the pumpkin as a product or recipe, but the seed as a symbol of biodiversity, the future, and a connection to the earth. An outdoor day that combines nature, rural culture, and the hospitality of a small Cuneo village.
The 2026 edition was held on Sunday, April 26 in Piozzo, organized by the Pro Loco. The program alternated between meetings, workshops, and convivial moments: from the opening of the exhibition Mistà , from objects of devotion to collectibles in the Church of the Battuti Neri, to dialogues on sowing and cultivation, and a round table on biodiversity. The large green market and the free distribution of pumpkin seeds were confirmed, with the participation of organizations such as ADIPA Piemonte and Slow Food.
Program of the day (Sunday, April 26, 2026):
Throughout the day: market of nurserymen and producers, free distribution of pumpkin seeds, workshops for children and families.
