The charity run along the Catania seafront in support of Telethon research
Di corsa per Telethon is one of the most cherished running events in the Catania sports calendar: a road race that combines competition, popular participation, and a commitment to solidarity in support of the Telethon Foundation, which has been at the forefront of scientific research into rare genetic diseases for years. The event takes place in the municipality of Catania, along the picturesque city seafront, attracting professional athletes, amateur runners, families, and citizens eager to support a good cause.
The event takes place along Viale Ruggero di Lauria, one of the most scenic avenues overlooking the sea in Catania. The track is designed as a 2 km city circuit to be repeated several times, with the meeting point, start, and finish all located in the seafront area. The race offers three different formats to suit everyone:
The value of the event is not measured only in kilometers: every registration translates into a concrete contribution to the research into rare genetic diseases carried out by Telethon. The slogan accompanying the event—sport, solidarity, and participation—perfectly summarizes the spirit of a day where running becomes a way to do good.
The race is organized by the ASD Scuola di Atletica Leggera Catania under the aegis of FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) and is part of the Running Sicily circuit, a showcase for island running that visits various locations in Sicily throughout the year.
More than just a race, Di corsa per Telethon has become a highly anticipated event for the sports community of Catania and its province. The backdrop of the seafront, the spring weather, and the charitable purpose make the event a popular festival capable of combining athletic performance with inclusion, in true Sicilian spirit.
The ninth edition of Di corsa per Telethon was held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, on the Catania seafront. The meeting point, start, and finish were set at Piazza del Tricolore, with the event taking place from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
The route followed a 2 km city circuit repeated five times along Viale Ruggero di Lauria, with buoys placed near Borghetto Europa and Hotel Nettuno. The three formats were confirmed: the 10 km competitive road race, the 10 km non-competitive walkathon, and the 2 km fun walkathon open to families and amateurs. The organization was managed by the ASD Scuola di Atletica Leggera Catania under the aegis of FIDAL, with proceeds donated to the Telethon Foundation.
The Catania seafront, along Viale Ruggero di Lauria, is easily accessible by car and public transport. By train, you can reach Catania Centrale station, a short distance from the race area; Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is just a few kilometers away.
Registration for the 10 km competitive race is reserved for registered athletes according to FIDAL regulations; the non-competitive events (10 km walkathon and 2 km fun run) are open to everyone. It is recommended to check fees and registration methods with the organizers and the Running Sicily circuit.
During the event, traffic restrictions are expected along the seafront: it is best to reach the starting area early and on foot or by public transport.
