The Catania Marathon, between the sea and Mount Etna

The Catania Marathon is the flagship running event of the Sicilian capital, organized by A.S.D. Atletica Sicilia under the Naturosa brand and included in the national FIDAL calendar. It takes place every December in the municipality of Catania, in the province of Catania, and has quickly secured its place among the most beloved marathons in Southern Italy thanks to a fast, scenic course suitable for both professionals and amateurs.

A flat course along the coast

The heart of the event is Viale Kennedy, along the famous Playa di Catania, described by organizers as the "natural home" of the marathon. The course runs almost entirely along the seafront, with a gradient of less than 1%: a fast track, ideal for those chasing a personal best. As you run, your gaze sweeps between the blue of the Ionian Sea and the imposing silhouette of Mount Etna, the volcano that is the symbol of the city. The race is structured in laps: the marathon consists of four laps of just over 10.5 km, while the half marathon covers two laps of the same circuit.

Three distances for everyone

The Catania Marathon offers three races with staggered starts, so that runners of every level can find their challenge:

• Marathon - the classic 42.195 km distance;
• Half Marathon - 21.097 km;
• 10.5 km - the shortest race, perfect for those new to road racing or looking for a fast pace.

The medals and bibs celebrate the symbols of the city, starting with "u Liotru," the elephant that is the emblem of Catania, making the event an authentic showcase of Etnean identity.

Beyond the competition, the Catania Marathon is a festive day that attracts athletes from all over Sicily, Italy, and abroad, confirming a constantly growing participation.
