Two days of pasta, music, and tradition in the world's pasta capital

There is a village in Abruzzo whose name is inextricably linked to pasta: Fara San Martino, in the province of Chieti, nestled at the foot of the Majella National Park and crossed by the pure waters flowing from the Gorges of San Martino. This is the birthplace of De Cecco pasta, exported worldwide, and it is here that the community celebrates this bond every summer with the De Cecco Pasta Festival, organized by the Pro Loco APS of Fara San Martino under the patronage of the Municipality.
For two days, Piazza Municipio transforms into the stage for a grand popular celebration. Food stalls, open from noon until evening, serve pasta in its many shapes, dressed with traditional Abruzzese sauces and enhanced by local ingredients. The dishes are prepared in collaboration with the renowned chefs of Villa Santa Maria—the "town of chefs" located just a few kilometers away in the Sangro-Aventino valley—ensuring an authentic and carefully crafted culinary experience.
Beyond the gastronomy, the festival offers live music with bands animating the evenings in the square, creating the convivial atmosphere typical of Abruzzese village festivals. The event also features the Scarpinata Farese, a non-competitive walk through the natural scenery of the Majella National Park, designed to combine sport, relaxation, and exploration for visitors. Admission to the festival is free and open to all.
The De Cecco Pasta Festival is also the perfect opportunity to explore Fara San Martino: the medieval historic center of Terra Vecchia with its Porta del Sole, the striking Gorges of San Martino, and the trails of the Majella. A blend of food, wine, nature, and tradition that makes this event one of the most iconic festivals in inland Abruzzo.
The De Cecco Pasta Festival is a staple of the Fara San Martino summer, traditionally organized around the third Sunday of August by the local Pro Loco APS. The official dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced.
As in previous editions, visitors can expect two days in Piazza Municipio with food stalls dedicated to local artisanal pasta, live music, and the Scarpinata Farese hike in the Majella National Park. The detailed program will be published on the official channels of the Pro Loco of Fara San Martino in the weeks leading up to the event.
