The Elba tribute to Fabrizio De André in Marciana Marina
De André Day is the event through which Marciana Marina, a small town on the Island of Elba in the province of Livorno, celebrates the artistic legacy of Fabrizio De André every year. Established in the late 1990s, the event has become a staple of the Elba summer: two evenings of free concerts where the voice, lyrics, and social conscience of 'Faber' take center stage among the pastel-colored houses and the small harbor of one of Tuscany's most beloved villages.
The heart of the festival lies in its live performances: local bands, soloists, and nationally acclaimed guests take turns on stage to reinterpret the most famous tracks by the Genoese songwriter, from La canzone di Marinella to Bocca di rosa, as well as the albums that defined the history of Italian singer-songwriter music. Alongside the musical reinterpretations, there is space for spoken word and storytelling, with writers and journalists exploring De André's work and philosophy, highlighting not only his artistic dimension but also his poetic and social impact.
De André Day is organized by the Pro Loco of Marciana Marina with the patronage of the Municipality of Marciana Marina and takes place in the town's historic squares, traditionally Piazza della Chiesa and Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Admission is free, and performances begin late in the evening when the summer heat mellows—a formula that attracts residents, vacationers, and fans of singer-songwriter music every year.
Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, Marciana Marina is one of the smallest municipalities in Italy by area and one of the most characteristic seaside villages on the Island of Elba. The seafront, the historic Torre degli Appiani, and the narrow streets of the Cotone district provide a natural backdrop for the festival, which is part of a summer calendar packed with cultural and musical events. Attending De André Day means combining the discovery of Elba, in the heart of Tuscany, with the music of one of Italy's most beloved authors.
The 2026 edition of De André Day is scheduled in Marciana Marina, on the Island of Elba, for the evenings of Thursday, August 20, and Friday, August 21, 2026, at Piazza della Chiesa starting around 9:45 PM. Admission is free.
For this edition as well, the festival, organized by the Pro Loco of Marciana Marina, offers two evenings of concerts and reinterpretations dedicated to the repertoire of Fabrizio De André. The detailed program, including the bands, soloists, and guests who will take the stage, will be officially announced by the organizers closer to the event date.
Marciana Marina is reached from the Island of Elba after landing in Portoferraio, which is connected to the mainland by ferries from Piombino Marittima (Piombino is accessible by train and car). From Portoferraio, continue by car or local bus for about 20 minutes. The nearest airports are Pisa and Florence.
Performances take place late in the evening, roughly from 9:30 PM to 9:45 PM. Admission is free.
In August, Elba is very busy: it is advisable to book ferries and accommodation well in advance and to arrive in the square early to secure a spot.
