About Crespina Carnival

The Crespina Carnival in the Streets transforms the center of this small village—the main hub of the Crespina Lorenzana municipality in the province of Pisa—into an afternoon of celebration for the whole family. Between Piazza Cesare Battisti and the town streets, you will find parades of masks, music, and color, along with children's games, performances, and traditional Tuscan Carnival snacks. Organized by the local Pro Loco in collaboration with community groups, it is a free and welcoming event that brings together young and old in the heart of the Pisan Hills.

Carnival in the heart of the Pisan Hills

The Crespina Carnival in the Streets is the festive event that brings the village of Crespina to life. Located in the main town of Crespina Lorenzana, in the province of Pisa, Tuscany, the event sees the streets and squares—starting from Piazza Cesare Battisti—filled with masks, music, and color for an entire afternoon, marking one of the many popular celebrations that enliven the Pisan Hills during the Carnival season.

This is not a massive carnival with giant floats like those in neighboring cities, but a genuine, family-friendly village festival. It is an event designed primarily for children, who can wander the village in costume, play, and have fun together. It is precisely this intimate and welcoming atmosphere that makes it a highly anticipated date for local families.

Games, shows, and entertainment for children

The program is built around children's entertainment. Along the village streets, there are pony rides, face painting, the traditional pentolaccia game, and many other activities. Entertainment is also provided by the Magico Matteo show, while prizes are awarded to the children with the most beautiful costumes.

Tuscan Carnival snacks

As in any respectable festival, food plays a starring role in Crespina. For those with a sweet tooth, there are tasty snacks like frati (traditional Tuscan fried doughnuts) and other Carnival sweets; for those who prefer savory treats, porchetta and schiacciata are ready to be enjoyed. It is a perfect opportunity to discover the simple, authentic flavors of local cuisine.

A community celebration

The Crespina Carnival in the Streets is organized by the Pro Loco Crespina Lorenzana in collaboration with the Misericordia di Crespina and the Crespina/Cenaia Pastoral Unit, with the patronage of the Municipality of Crespina Lorenzana. It is an expression of the vibrant community spirit of a small municipality formed in 2014 from the merger of Crespina and Lorenzana, where popular traditions remain a moment of encounter and celebration for the entire community.
