The international festival of noir cinema and literature
Courmayeur Noir in Festival is the most important Italian event dedicated to mystery, thriller, and noir cinema and literature. Founded in 1991, it has for years chosen Courmayeur (Province of Aosta), a prestigious location at the foot of Mont Blanc, as its winter venue, usually around December 8th.
The festival has two intertwined souls. On one hand, cinema: international premieres, films in competition, documentaries, and meetings with directors and actors. On the other, literature: book presentations, dialogues with authors, and awards dedicated to the best Italian mystery novel. It is this formula that makes Noir a unique event, capable of uniting audiences in cinemas with readers.
Among the most coveted awards are the Raymond Chandler Award for a career in genre literature, the Premio Giorgio Scerbanenco for the best Italian noir novel of the year, and the Premio Caligari for cinema. The audience also awards the films in competition, in constant dialogue between the jury and spectators.
Directed by Giorgio Gosetti and Marina Fabbri, the festival uses various spaces in the town, from the congress center to the screening rooms. The choice of Courmayeur and the Aosta Valley as a stage, amidst snow and peaks, gives the event an unmistakable atmosphere, suspended between alpine elegance and the dark charm of the genre.
Noir in Festival 2026 celebrates its 25th edition from December 8th to 13th in Courmayeur. Directed by Giorgio Gosetti and Marina Fabbri, the festival alternates competitive screenings, premieres, and documentaries with book presentations and meetings with writers. The historic awards (Raymond Chandler Award, Premio Scerbanenco, audience awards) are confirmed. Among the guests announced for the opening nights is actress Veronica Pivetti for the inauguration.
The 25th edition is structured, as tradition dictates, over six days (December 8-13) with a schedule that intertwines cinema and literature:
The detailed day-by-day program, with film titles, guests, and times, will be published on the official website noirfest.com in the weeks preceding the event.
Courmayeur can be reached by car via the A5 Turin-Aosta highway, Courmayeur exit. The nearest train station is Aosta (then continue by bus). The closest airports are Turin Caselle and Geneva.
Access procedures for screenings and events will be published on the official website noirfest.com closer to the event. Many literary events are free to enter.
Early December festival, in the heart of the winter season: warm clothing is recommended, and advance booking of accommodation is advised.
