The village of Atessa transforms into an open-air museum of art, flavor, and tradition
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Corti Antiche is one of the most beloved summer events in the historic center of Atessa, in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. For one night, the streets, narrow alleys, squares, and historic palaces of the village transform into a captivating open-air museum, where art, music, gastronomy, and community intertwine to showcase the authentic spirit of the Val di Sangro region.
The heart of the event lies in discovering the historic center of Atessa: courtyards and patios, usually closed to the public, are opened and adorned with art installations, exhibitions, and graphic displays. Along the route, guests encounter musical, theatrical, and dance performances, street art and juggling shows, demonstrations of ancient crafts, and traditional games for children. The atmosphere is that of a grand, widespread village festival where every corner of the town holds a surprise.
A significant focus is placed on gastronomy: numerous stations scattered throughout the historic center offer traditional dishes and local wines, with menus designed to accommodate specific dietary needs (including gluten-free, vegetarian, and children's options). Local wine experts, such as the Italian Sommelier Association and the Regional Wine Shop of the Cities of Wine, collaborate on tastings, highlighting the excellence of Abruzzo's food and wine scene.
Over time, Corti Antiche has distinguished itself through a strong commitment to sustainability and inclusion. The event is plastic-free: wherever possible, single-use materials are replaced with biodegradable and compostable tableware and cutlery. The festival is also designed with families and children in mind, featuring dedicated spaces, shows, and menus, and includes accessible routes clearly marked on the map for those with mobility issues.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Atessa, coordinated by the Gaia Cooperative, and supported by Legambiente, which also contributes through national volunteer camps dedicated to caring for the local territory and trails. Corti Antiche has become a symbol of Atessa's identity, tradition, and conviviality, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Corti Antiche have not yet been announced. The event, which is traditionally held in August in the historic center of Atessa, will return with its usual route through courtyards, art, performances, and local gastronomy. To find out the official date and program, we recommend following the channels of the Municipality of Atessa and the dedicated social media page.
Atessa is located in the Val di Sangro, in the province of Chieti. By car, it can be reached from the Val di Sangro exit of the A14 motorway, following signs for Atessa. The nearest train station is Atessa-Casalbordino on the Adriatic line.
Admission to the event is free of charge. In previous editions, a shuttle bus service operated from the parking area to the historic center. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Atessa and the event's social media page for schedules, maps, and the updated program.
