The summer event series in the town of Bomba, in the heart of the Sangro Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Agosto Bombese is the series of events with which the Municipality of Bomba, in the province of Chieti, brings its historic center to life throughout August. Bomba is a small medieval village in inland Abruzzo, nestled on a hill in the Sangro Valley and overlooking the picturesque Lake Bomba, at the foot of Mount Pallano and a short distance from the Maiella National Park. During the summer, the town fills with returning residents, vacationers, and visitors, and the August calendar becomes the moment when the community comes together.
The festival is not a single event but a widespread program that spans the entire month, with events concentrated mainly in Piazza G. Matteotti, the heart of the village, and in the spaces of the historic center among noble palaces like Palazzo Spaventa and the stone alleys. The program alternates between different genres and audiences:
Alongside entertainment, Agosto Bombese hosts moments of cultural promotion linked to the history of the village, which was the birthplace of brothers Silvio and Bertrando Spaventa, prominent figures in 19th-century thought and politics. In past editions, the festival has also hosted relational art happenings in the square, with the participation of local artists and the direct involvement of citizens of all generations.
A special place is reserved for Bomba's gastronomy: summer evenings are often accompanied by tastings of 'Lu Scartocce', the typical fried treats of the town, and other products from the peasant tradition of the Sangro Valley. Food thus becomes an additional thread that binds the community and tells the story of the place's identity.
Participating in Agosto Bombese means discovering one of the most authentic villages in the Abruzzo hinterland, between walks by the lake, views of the Sangro valley toward the Maiella, and the village life that returns to its most intense rhythm in summer. An ideal destination for those seeking a genuine Abruzzo, far from the most crowded spots.
The Municipality of Bomba proposes the Agosto Bombese festival every summer with a widespread calendar of events. The dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: it is recommended to check the visitbomba.it website and the Municipality's social media channels for updates.
