The Truffle King Festival in Tornareccio
In the heart of the Upper Vastese, perched at an altitude of over 600 meters in the hills of the Chieti province, the village of Tornareccio hosts the Truffle King Festival every summer, one of the most anticipated food and wine events in inland Abruzzo. For a few days, the historic center turns into a true gourmet paradise, entirely dedicated to the truffle, the "king of the table" that scents the woods of this part of the region.
The truffle, treasure of the Vastese woods
Tornareccio is known as one of the most renowned centers for the harvesting and production of both black and white truffles. The woods surrounding the village guard this precious tuber, which for the occasion becomes the absolute star of menus built entirely around its unmistakable aroma. Food stalls set up among alleys and small squares offer truffle-scented dishes, from homemade pasta to traditional Abruzzese peasant preparations.
A village in celebration
During the festival, the streets of Tornareccio fill with stalls selling local products and handicrafts, guided tastings with local chefs and producers, evening concerts, and live music performances. There is no shortage of entertainment and workshops for children, folk performances, and street performers, as well as guided tours of the historic center and the surrounding nature trails. It is the ideal opportunity to discover a village that also boasts another distinction: that of the "honey capital" of Abruzzo, famous for its large mosaics that decorate the facades of the houses.

How to get there
Tornareccio is located in the hinterland of the Chieti province, in the Upper Vastese. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (exits towards the Vastese coast), then continuing along provincial roads towards the interior. The village stands at about 630 meters above sea level.
