Floral carpets, mass, and procession in the historic Ciociaria town
In the heart of Ciociaria, the town of Ferentino (Province of Frosinone, Lazio) celebrates the solemnity of Corpus Domini with one of its most cherished traditions: the Infiorata. For one day, the streets of the historic center, from the Cathedral along the procession route, are transformed into a long carpet of petals, leaves, and seeds arranged to depict sacred images, scenes from the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, and delicate decorative motifs.
The Infiorata unites religious devotion with popular creativity. The floral displays, handcrafted by parishes, confraternities, associations, and local citizens, are created in the afternoon and last only for an evening: they are a form of ephemeral art, destined to be walked upon by the procession carrying the Blessed Sacrament. It is precisely this fragile and fleeting nature that makes the event so evocative and precious to the community.
The event is centered on the Sunday of Corpus Domini. In the afternoon, associations complete their floral sections along the designated streets; in the evening, a solemn mass is celebrated in the Cathedral, followed by a procession that winds through the flower-lined streets of the center. As the Blessed Sacrament passes, the faithful accompany the cortege amidst the colors and scents of the petals, in an atmosphere that is both solemn and festive.
Adding further excitement to the event is the prize competition organized by the Pro Loco of Ferentino, which rewards the best floral sections. Awards are assigned by a popular jury, a quality jury, and a special prize dedicated to the parishes. Participation is free, and the voting process involves the citizens, who are invited to choose the most beautiful works.
Ferentino is part of the great tradition of Corpus Domini flower festivals that, in this corner of southern Lazio, also enlivens towns such as Alatri, Sora, Cervaro, Fumone, and the Abbey of Casamari. For visitors, it is an opportunity to discover the historic village of Ferentino—with its acropolis, ancient walls, and Cathedral—within the framework of a festival that weaves together popular tradition, spirituality, and community identity.
The 2026 edition confirmed the vitality of the Ferentino tradition. On the solemnity of Corpus Domini, Sunday, June 7, associations, parishes, and neighborhoods created floral displays along the procession route in the historic center of Ferentino. The solemn mass celebrated in the Cathedral preceded the cortege with the Blessed Sacrament, accompanied by the faithful amidst the colorful petals. The Pro Loco renewed the prize competition, with voting open to citizens to elect the most beautiful sections.
Ferentino is located in the province of Frosinone, along the A1 Rome-Naples motorway (Ferentino-Sora exit). By train, the nearest station is Frosinone, with bus connections to the center. The heart of the event is the historic center, around the Cathedral.
The Infiorata is held on the Sunday of Corpus Domini, in June. The floral works are set up in the afternoon; the mass and procession take place in the evening.
The event is free and takes place outdoors, along the streets of the center. Comfortable footwear is recommended for walking along the floral route.
