About Corn on the Cob Festival

The Corn on the Cob Festival in Recale is one of the most beloved food festivals in the province of Caserta: five July evenings dedicated to corn grown in the Caserta countryside, served boiled, roasted, or fried at the Pro Loco Nuova Recale stands. Featuring live music, group dancing, comedy shows, and children's activities, the event transforms Piazza Padre Pio and Viale dei Pini into a large popular celebration space with free admission, in a corner of Campania that has made agriculture its identity.

The festival celebrating the yellow gold of the Terra di Lavoro

Every year, in mid-July, the small town of Recale, in the province of Caserta, dedicates five days to the product that best represents the agriculture of the Caserta plains: corn on the cob. The Corn on the Cob Festival, organized by the Pro Loco Nuova Recale, was created to promote zero-kilometer corn grown in the surrounding countryside and has become one of the most popular summer events in inland Campania, attracting visitors from across the province and the Naples metropolitan area, just over twenty kilometers away.

The festival has a long history: the 2024 edition marked its twentieth anniversary, and the event has continued to grow ever since. That same year, the festival received national recognition as a quality food festival, presented during a ceremony at the Senate of the Republic: a certificate that the organizers described as "a sort of graduation" and which encouraged the Pro Loco to completely renew the event's structure.

Corn on the cob in all its forms

The heart of the festival remains the food. At the gastronomic stands set up by Pro Loco volunteers, corn is served according to local farming traditions, in simple and recognizable preparations:

  • Boiled corn, served hot and lightly salted, the most traditional way to enjoy it;
  • Roasted corn over charcoal, with its unmistakable smoky note;
  • Fried corn and other creative takes on home cooking;
  • Typical Campanian dishes and products from local farms, accompanied by local wines;
  • a gluten-free stand, introduced to accommodate those with specific dietary needs.

Next to the stands, a small open-air exhibition space dedicated to corn has been set up, featuring agricultural tools and objects from rural life once used for corn cultivation.

Music, dancing, and shows every night

The Corn on the Cob Festival is not just about food. Each evening features its own stage, with a program that alternates live music, tribute bands, group dancing, performances by local dance schools, comedy shows, and cabaret acts. There is no shortage of Campanian folk groups, bottari percussionists playing traditional rural rhythms, and majorettes who accompany the opening of the evenings along the town's streets.

Special attention is paid to families: games and entertainment for children, workshops dedicated to rural cooking, and spaces designed to ensure the festival remains a social occasion for the entire community. Over the years, well-known faces from Neapolitan music and television have taken the stage, helping to make the event known well beyond the municipal borders.

Where it takes place

Since 2024, the festival has been held in Piazza Padre Pio and along Viale dei Pini, a larger and better-organized area compared to the previous location on Via Borsellino, with stands, a stage, and seating areas arranged to facilitate visitor flow. Admission to the event is free: you only pay for what you consume at the stands, with popular prices designed for families.

Recale, a small town in the Terra di Lavoro

With just over seven thousand inhabitants, Recale is one of the smallest municipalities in the province of Caserta, nestled in the plain that the ancients called Campania felix and which is still known today as Terra di Lavoro. It is a fertile territory, historically dedicated to cereal and vegetable farming, just minutes from the Royal Palace of Caserta and the village of Casertavecchia: the festival can therefore become the perfect evening stop after a day dedicated to Caserta's artistic heritage.

The event is supported by the Municipality of Recale and has seen the collaboration of the Campania Region and Coldiretti over the years, confirming the close bond between the festival and the local agricultural world.

Tips for your visit

  • Weekend evenings are the busiest: it is best to arrive early to avoid queues at the stands.
  • Payment at the stands is generally in cash.
  • July in the Caserta area is hot even in the evening: light clothing and comfortable shoes are the right choice.
  • The detailed program is published by the Pro Loco Nuova Recale on their social media channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
