An artistic residency dedicated to Mediterranean music and dance
Coreutica is a high-level artistic residency dedicated to Mediterranean music and dance that brings San Vito dei Normanni, in the heart of the Brindisi province in Puglia, to life every summer. Organized by the World Music Academy and based at the Laboratorio Urbano ExFadda, the event began in 2015 as an educational project focused on traditional dance and gave rise to the San Vito Pizzica School, now a benchmark for a vast community of dancers across the country.
For an entire week, hundreds of dancers and musicians from all over Italy and the Mediterranean basin gather in San Vito for an intensive program of workshops, seminars, and training courses. The curriculum weaves together the study of choreographic languages with reflections on the contemporary reinterpretation of tradition. Disciplines include pizzica pizzica, tambourine, Iberian dances, and dances from other Mediterranean regions, led by renowned masters and researchers in the field of traditional music.
Coreutica enhances the sense of community and the bond with the territory of San Vito dei Normanni. Activities take place between the Laboratorio Urbano ExFadda, the Teatro Tex, and the historic town center, with events spilling into the squares and iconic spots of the village. The residency is part of the Nuova Generazione Trad program, supported by the Ministry of Culture, through which the World Music Academy conducts research, production, and the transmission of knowledge related to the musical and choreutic traditions of Puglia.
Alongside the training sessions for registered participants, Coreutica offers free public events every evening, open to residents and visitors alike: lecture-performances, talks, musical gatherings, and the grand final ronda (jam session) that closes the week with the community of dancers gathered in the square. It is a unique opportunity to experience pizzica and Mediterranean dances firsthand in the authentic setting of one of the most vibrant centers of Salento and Apulian tradition.
From July 12th to 18th, 2026, the twelfth edition of Coreutica returns to San Vito dei Normanni (Brindisi province, Puglia), the high-level residency of the World Music Academy dedicated to Mediterranean music and dance.
The daily schedule includes pizzica pizzica lessons with Andrea De Siena, Mina Vita, and Fabrizio Nigro, a two-part tambourine course, and a seminar on Iberian dances. Open seminars include the lecture-performance Il corpo che suona (The Sounding Body) with Vincenzo Gagliani, a seminar on the dances of the Lattari Mountains, and meetings curated by Massimiliano Morabito.
The major highlight of 2026 is the presence of Nico Monaco, an internationally acclaimed Apulian dancer, who will lead a course exploring the dialogue between contemporary dance and traditional codes. The artistic direction is entrusted to Andrea De Siena and Fabrizio Nigro.
As every year, alongside activities for registered participants, the residency offers public evening events and the grand final ronda in the historic center of San Vito dei Normanni.
