International FEI eventing returns to the Sporting Club Monterosa in Caltignaga
The Coppa delle Alpi (also known as the Alps Cup) is one of the most anticipated events on the Piedmontese equestrian calendar. It takes place in Morghengo, a hamlet in the municipality of Caltignaga in the province of Novara, at the Sporting Club Monterosa, one of Northern Italy's premier equestrian centers for the eventing discipline.
Eventing is the most spectacular and comprehensive equestrian discipline: it tests the horse-and-rider partnership across three distinct and complementary phases held throughout the event. The Province of Novara and the Piedmont region host this truly international event, attracting participants from numerous European and non-European nations.
The competition follows the classic structure of an international FEI eventing competition:
The courses are designed by world-class experts: the cross-country track was entrusted to the Frenchman Pierre Le Goupil, course designer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while the show jumping course bears the signature of the Italian Andrea Fusi.
The Morghengo event is not just a prestigious competition: it is a qualifying event for major international eventing milestones, including Olympic selections. The flat terrain of the Novara countryside ensures excellent visibility for the public, who can follow all phases of the competition up close.
Organized by the Sporting Club Monterosa Novara ASD, presided over by Claudio Limontini, the Morghengo equestrian center is a recognized facility that hosts numerous national and international events throughout the year. The competition is accompanied by various side initiatives, ranging from social inclusion—with a project involving local children as special judges—to environmental awareness through plastic-free management.
The equestrian competition is traditionally accompanied by Cavalli e... motori, a vintage car rally that travels through the roads of the province, visiting wineries and showcasing local products, combining a passion for horses with a love for historic engines in a day of celebration open to everyone.
The 2026 edition of the Coppa delle Alpi brought the Sporting Club Monterosa in Morghengo to life from May 14 to 17, confirming its status as one of the most important Italian international eventing competitions. The event attracted horse-and-rider pairs from Italy, South Korea, France, Spain, Ecuador, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, and India, across categories ranging from CCI2*-S to CCI4*-S.
The program followed the classic eventing structure: veterinary inspections and briefings at the opening, dressage test, a demanding cross-country day on the course designed by Pierre Le Goupil, and finally, the show jumping with the awards ceremony. Simultaneously, the ninth edition of Cavalli e... motori took place, the vintage car rally through the roads of the Novara area.
International categories from CCI2*-S to CCI4*-S. Free admission for the public.
