The festival of the clam that in Cupra Marittima is called 'concola'
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, at the end of June, Cupra Marittima dedicates an entire weekend to its most distinctive maritime excellence: the 'concola cuprense'. This is a small sea clam that elsewhere is called 'vongola' or 'lupino di mare', but which only in this Municipality in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, has earned its own name and, above all, the Municipal Designation (De.Co.), a recognition that protects its uniqueness and its link to the territory. Hence the name of the event, Concolando, which makes the 'concola' the absolute protagonist of three days of taste and culture.
Concolando is not just a food festival: it is a project that intertwines gastronomic culture, the valorization of sustainable fishing, and the promotion of the territory. In previous editions, the event has been supported by European funds dedicated to the fishing sector, confirming the Municipality's commitment to a fishing model that respects the Adriatic Sea and its resources. The heart of the festival, however, remains the table, with the 'concola' served according to traditional Cupra Marittima recipes.
In recent editions, the program has been spread over three days and across various locations in the town. Among the established events:
The festival is preceded by 'Aspettando Concolando' (Waiting for Concolando), a series of weekly events held in the main restaurants of Cupra Marittima, where you can savor dishes made with 'concola cuprense' in the weeks leading up to the event. A way to extend the celebration and involve the entire local restaurant community.
Attending Concolando is also an opportunity to visit Cupra Marittima, a village on the Riviera delle Palme that combines its seaside vocation with a rich historical heritage, from the Civita Archaeological Natural Park to the ancient village of Marano. Between the sea, good food, and tradition, the 'concola' becomes the common thread of a weekend that tells the most authentic identity of this corner of the Marche region.
The 2026 edition of Concolando is expected in Cupra Marittima: the festival of the 'concola cuprense' De.Co. is listed among the year's events identified by the Municipality. As of the writing date, neither the official calendar nor the complete program have been released. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to maintain its formula of tastings of spaghetti with 'concole', cooking workshops, talks on sustainable fishing, and live music on the seafront, along with the usual 'Aspettando Concolando' event series in the town's restaurants. For definitive dates and details, please refer to the official channels of the Municipality of Cupra Marittima.
The main events take place in Cupra Marittima (AP), with Parco San Benedetto Martire on the northern seafront as the venue for tastings and other city locations (Villa Cellini, central spaces) for workshops and talks.
By car: take the Grottammare-Cupra Marittima exit from the A14 motorway, then follow the SS16 Adriatica. By train: Cupra Marittima station on the Bologna-Lecce Adriatic line, a few minutes from the seafront. The nearest airport is Ancona-Falconara.
