Road racing in the heart of Baroque Comiso, featuring Master athletes and an international Élite heat
The ComisoRace & Élite is one of the most anticipated dates on the Sicilian running calendar. Every spring, the event transforms the Baroque historic center of Comiso, in the province of Ragusa, into a grand urban circuit where athletes race past palaces, churches, and squares that define the Iblean identity. Organized by A.S.D. Athlon Kamarina, led by Loredana Busacca, the race has firmly established itself as a benchmark in the regional and national sports scene.
ComisoRace is included in the official FIDAL calendar as a national road race with a certified course and serves as a leg of the Sicily Bronze Races circuit. The route winds entirely through the city center, with the start and finish line in the picturesque Piazza Fonte Diana, Comiso's monumental living room. Every year, the race attracts hundreds of Master athletes representing dozens of sports clubs from across Sicily.
The event offers various formats to engage both competitive runners and enthusiasts of all levels:
Starting in 2026, ComisoRace introduces a significant technical innovation: an invitation-only Élite heat reserved for international professionals. The top-runner race takes place on a 1 km urban loop repeated ten times, a format designed to showcase speed, tactics, and excitement for the spectators. The lineup features stars such as the Italian Daniele Meucci, Ahmed Ouhda, and Giulia Zanne, ready to compete against numerous African athletes from six different nations.
Beyond the competitive aspect, ComisoRace is a celebration of sport and the city itself: the backdrop of Comiso's Baroque architecture, the participation of families, and the festive atmosphere along the route make the day a great opportunity for social connection and showcasing the Ragusa province in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. All participants receive a commemorative medal, a technical jersey, refreshments, and category prizes.
The third edition of the ComisoRace & Élite took place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the Baroque historic center of Comiso, valid for the Sicily Bronze Races circuit and included in the national FIDAL calendar.
The day began with a meeting point from 7:30 to 8:30 AM in Piazza Fonte Diana; at 9:00 AM, the 10 km competitive race, the walk, and the Family Run started; at 11:00 AM, the Élite heat took place on the 1 km urban loop repeated ten times; at 12:00 PM, the awards ceremony followed.
Over 350 Master athletes from 65 sports clubs participated, with Athlon Kamarina, Megara Running, and Pol. Atletica Vittoria leading in terms of registered participants. The highlight was the invitation-only Élite heat, featuring Italian Daniele Meucci, Ahmed Ouhda, Giulia Zanne, and athletes from six African nations.
