The festival of intelligent comedy in the village of Montopoli in Val d'Arno
Comicopoli is a festival dedicated to comedy and theatrical performance that brings the historic center of Montopoli in Val d'Arno to lifeโa small, charming village in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. For two evenings, the town turns into a widespread stage: squares, gardens, alleys, and terraces become performance spaces where the audience follows the shows while strolling through the ancient stones of the village, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere that is the true hallmark of the event.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Katia Beni, a Tuscan actress and author who is one of the most beloved voices on the Italian comedy scene. She defines the festival's editorial line: intelligent comedy that is never an end in itself, capable of addressing current civil and social issues with a light touch. Each edition weaves laughter with reflection on topics such as rights, violence against women, peace, and collective commitment, hosting comedians, actors, and satirists who have shaped the history of live performance in our country.
Over the years, Comicopoli has brought some of the most important names in Italian comedy and theater to Montopoli. Artists who have graced the village stages include Lucia Poli, Giorgio Panariello, Lella Costa, Drusilla Foer, Paolo Ruffini, and Ale e Franz, a testament to the festival's ability to combine popularity with quality. The format alternates between interview-shows, where Katia Beni engages with guests, and full-fledged monologues and one-man shows, offering the audience two complementary registers of the same laughter.
Comicopoli was born from the commitment of local associations and cultural entities: the organization is managed by Andromedart, START.TIP, and Borderline Club Aps, with the support of the Tuscany Region and the Municipality of Montopoli in Val d'Arno, and the collaboration of partners like the local Pro Loco. More than just a simple lineup of shows, the festival has become an opportunity to promote the village and its heritage, attracting an audience from all over the Valdarno area and beyond to experience two evenings of open-air theater under the Tuscan stars.
The fifth edition of Comicopoli returns to Montopoli in Val d'Arno on June 26 and 27, 2026, confirming the formula that has made the festival a highly anticipated event of the Tuscan summer. Under the artistic direction of Katia Beni, the 2026 program focuses on comedy capable of combining laughter with reflection on major civil issues, from violence against women to the rejection of war. The shows are spread across two stages in the heart of the village: the Arco di Castruccio and Piazza San Matteo. Announced guests include Chiara Francini, Giobbe Covatta, Ubaldo Pantani, and Luca Bizzarri.
The box office opens and tokens can be collected from 7:00 PM in Piazza della Pieve.
