Colors of Spring - Kite Festival

A Sunday of kites in Montemurlo

Colors of Spring is the event that, every May, transforms Montemurlo, in the heart of the province of Prato, into a large open-air playground. Promoted by the Pro Loco of Montemurlo together with the Municipality of Montemurlo, the event celebrates the arrival of the warm season with its most beloved attraction: kite flying. Children, parents, and grandparents gather for a completely free day dedicated to creativity and shared play.

Build and fly your own kite

The heart of the festival is the free kite-building workshop, open throughout the day: children, assisted by adults, can assemble their own kite, customize it with drawings and colors, and then launch it into the sky. When the wind is favorable, dozens of colorful kites rise above the meadow, offering a spectacle that, as the municipal administration likes to remind us, always manages to thrill both young and old.

Games, shows, and plenty of activities for families

In addition to kites, the day offers a packed program of free entertainment designed for children:

• Traditional wooden games;
• Inflatables and a mini-quad track;
• Puppet theater and face painting workshop;
• Giant soap bubbles;
• Shows and entertainment provided by local associations and companies.

In the afternoon, around 4:00 PM, a free snack is scheduled for everyone, featuring bread and chocolate, while food stands offer traditional Tuscan dishes such as panzanella, platters of cold cuts with pecorino cheese, savory pies, and street food specialties.

A day with the Civil Protection

In parallel with Colors of Spring, the initiative "A day with the Civil Protection" takes place: the municipal civil protection system, together with local volunteer associations (Vab, Misericordia, Ari, Cisom, and other local entities), displays emergency vehicles and illustrates emergency procedures, raising awareness among families about safety culture and prevention.

Between tradition and the outdoors

Colors of Spring is much more than just a village festival: it is an invitation to encourage children to enjoy the outdoors, manual skills, and simple play—values that the Pro Loco of Montemurlo promotes with passion. The event is traditionally held at Parco della Pace, on Via Grazia Deledda, and represents one of the most cherished family events of spring in the province of Prato, in Tuscany.
