About Circo Sciarra

Circo Sciarra is a widespread festival that brings Villa Sciarra on the Janiculum Hill, in the heart of Rome, to life between late summer and early autumn. Promoted as part of the Estate Romana and curated by the Zip_Zone association, it blends circus arts, street performance, art installations, scenic readings, roving brass bands, and creative workshops for families and children. A free and accessible journey that transforms the historic park into a grand open-air theater, nestled among ancient trees, fountains, and panoramic views of the city.

A historic park turned into a stage

Circo Sciarra is a widespread festival of art, music, and performance held at Villa Sciarra, one of Rome's most evocative parks. Overlooking the Janiculum Hill and located within the first municipality, the park's paths, terraces, and lawns transform for several weeks between late summer and autumn into a continuous trail of installations, performances, and workshops designed for all ages.

A multidisciplinary program

The offering is intentionally diverse, spanning many languages of live performance. Audiences can enjoy circus and street art shows, stilt walkers, clowns, roving brass bands that accompany strolls through the park, scenic readings on the terraces, as well as art installations and participatory art scattered along the paths.

  • Contemporary circus and street theater performances
  • Musical parades and roving bands
  • Installations and participatory art throughout the villa's avenues
  • Scenic readings and theatrical performances
  • Playful and creative workshops for children and families
  • Guided walks and nature discovery activities in the park

A space for families

A significant portion of the festival is dedicated to younger audiences. Wooden play installations, art workshops inspired by great masters, and educational treasure hunts make Villa Sciarra a place where children and teenagers can play, experiment, and move freely, while adults enjoy shows and concerts. The goal is to bring the local community and citizens from all over Rome back to the park, reclaiming it as a space for meeting and shared culture.

Estate Romana and Villa Sciarra

The festival was born within the Estate Romana, the cultural program promoted by Roma Capitale, and is curated by the Associazione Culturale Zip_Zone d'Intersezione Positiva, an organization active in community cultural planning. The setting is Villa Sciarra, a 19th-century park donated to the city, famous for its fountains, statues, and architecture immersed in greenery: a backdrop that adds charm to every event and makes the festival an opportunity to rediscover a precious corner of Lazio and the Capital.

Free admission and accessibility

All Circo Sciarra events are free of charge, subject to availability, with some activities requiring reservations. The festival pays particular attention to accessibility and sustainability, encouraging the use of public transport to reach the park.
