Three nights of international blues in the medieval village of Castel Porrona
The Cinigiano Blues Festival is one of the most distinctive musical events in the Province of Grosseto, bringing world-class international blues to one of the most charming villages in the Tuscan Maremma. Its most anticipated section is the Summer Edition, which every July transforms the medieval village of Castel Porrona, a hamlet of the Municipality of Cinigiano, into an open-air stage. The ancient walls, small squares, and narrow alleys of the castle provide a natural backdrop for three nights of free concerts.
The festival is divided into three distinct moments throughout the year. The Winter Edition takes place at the Cinigiano Municipal Theater during the winter months, offering indoor concerts. This is complemented by the Cinigiano Blues Contest, a competition dedicated to emerging talents in blues and related genres (country, funk, rock-blues, rockabilly): the finalist bands are awarded a professional recording session and the opportunity to open the concerts of the summer edition. The grand finale is the Summer Edition in July at Castel Porrona, the true beating heart of the festival.
Under the artistic direction of Luigi Genise, the festival has built a program over the years that focuses on prominent names from the international blues scene while maintaining high musical quality. The program weaves together blues, soul, funk, and rock'n'roll, alternating established artists with young emerging bands selected through the contest. Each summer evening is opened by the competition winners, creating a continuous dialogue between new talent and established stars.
Cinigiano is a municipality in the hilly Maremma region, in the Province of Grosseto, nestled among vineyards, olive groves, and landscapes that slope down toward Mount Amiata. The hamlet of Castel Porrona preserves the layout of a fortified medieval village, now restored and enhanced, offering an intimate and cozy setting for evening performances. Attending a blues concert within these walls on a summer night is an experience that combines quality music, the discovery of historical heritage, and genuine Maremma hospitality.
Admission to the Summer Edition concerts is free. The evenings are accompanied by a food and drink service managed by local committees, allowing guests to enjoy the event in a convivial atmosphere, tasting local products before and during the shows. It is an event suitable for everyone, from blues enthusiasts to curious travelers vacationing in Tuscany.
The second Summer Edition of the Cinigiano Blues Festival brings the village of Castel Porrona to life for three consecutive nights, from July 10th to 12th, 2026. Artistic director Luigi Genise maintains the festival's signature style: prominent names from the international blues scene and high musical quality, with evenings ranging from blues to soul and rock'n'roll. Each concert is opened by the finalist bands of the Cinigiano Blues Contest, whose final took place on May 23, 2026, in Monticello Amiata. Admission is free and shows start at 9:30 PM.
