The mountain film festival by Valsusa Filmfest stops in Caprie
Cinema in Verticale is one of the most beloved winter events in the Susa Valley. Dedicated to mountain cinema, culture, and adventure, it was born in 1999 as a preview to the Valsusa Filmfest, the region's historic film and cultural festival. The event consists of a series of free evenings hosted in various towns throughout the valley, including Caprie, in the Province of Turin, Piedmont.
In Caprie, screenings are held in the Novaretto district at the Teatro Chiara Melesso on Via Don Pagliarello. Here, as in other locations, the audience doesn't just watch films and documentaries; they meet high-profile guests in person, including authors, mountaineers, alpine guides, explorers, writers, journalists, and experts who share insights into mountain life and themes.
The goal of Cinema in Verticale is to promote mountain culture in all its facets: mountaineering and vertical sports, exploration, environmental protection, landscapes, and the lives of high-altitude communities. For the people of the Susa Valley, the mountains hold deep significance, and the festival was created to provide a space for reflection and storytelling through the big screen.
Over the years, Cinema in Verticale has become a highly anticipated event, drawing large, passionate crowds and offering meaningful moments for cultural exchange. The evenings, which are always free of charge, typically begin at 8:45 PM.
Cinema in Verticale serves as the winter preview for the Valsusa Filmfest, which reaches a significant milestone in 2026. The festival captures the spirit of the main event, focusing on mountain and environmental themes before the main festival brings socially, environmentally, and historically conscious cinema to the towns of the lower and upper Susa Valley. Attending an evening in Caprie means connecting with a cultural tradition deeply rooted in the territory, within an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.
