When summer arrives, the courtyard of the former hospital in Chiusa di Pesio, located at Via Giovanni Mauro 8, comes alive once again thanks to Cinema in Cortile, the historic open-air film festival curated by the Cercando il Cinema Association. In the heart of this town in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, at the gateway to the Alta Valle Pesio and Tanaro Natural Park, the big screen returns to fill summer evenings with a packed calendar of events between July and August.

A thirty-year tradition

Founded in the late nineties, the event has become a landmark for the residents of Chiusa di Pesio and for those who choose the Pesio Valley as their summer holiday destination. In 2026, Cinema in Cortile celebrates its 30th edition: a significant milestone for a festival born from the passion of a group of volunteers, which has grown to host over a dozen evenings every summer. Screenings begin at 9:00 PM and take place in the former hospital's courtyard, an intimate and evocative space just a short walk from the town center.

Between great cinema and award-winning shorts

The program alternates between auteur films, popular titles, family-friendly animated movies, and previews, with some free-admission evenings dedicated to specific themes. A special bond connects Cinema in Cortile to the Ecofestivalpesio, the international environmental short film festival held in Chiusa di Pesio in the spring: the finalists and winners of the Ecofestivalpesio are showcased during the summer evenings, bringing a glimpse of short films from dozens of countries around the world to the courtyard.

More than just a summer arena, Cinema in Cortile is a meeting point for the Chiusa di Pesio community: an evening spent in the cool air, under the Maritime Alps sky, enjoying a good film. The affordable, accessible entry and the friendly atmosphere make it one of the most beloved events of the Cuneo summer.
