The widespread Cilento festival stops in the village of Perito
CilentArt Fest is the summer festival that has been crossing the Cilento region since 2021, bringing theatre, music, dance, and contemporary circus out of conventional venues. Conceived and directed by Alfredo Balsamo and Vittorio Stasi, it is produced by Teatro Pubblico Campano with the support of the Campania Region and the Ministry of Culture. The festival does not focus on a single location: every night it moves to a different town, changing the landscape, the square, and the audience. In 2026, the sixth edition will visit eight centers in the province of Salerno—Moio della Civitella, Perito, Agropoli, Pollica, San Giovanni a Piro, Trentinara, Gioi, and Bellosguardo—from August 1st to 12th.
Among these towns, Perito holds a special place. The village, located at an altitude of about 465 meters in the heart of Cilento, in the province of Salerno, is a recurring presence in the festival calendar: in 2025, it was even entrusted with the opening night. Here, the festival brings not only performances but also training, as Perito hosts the Cilento Lab, the festival's residential theatre workshop, which in 2026 will take place from August 1st to 3rd under the guidance of Gabriele Vacis and Lorenzo Tombesi.
The 2026 evening in Perito is scheduled for Monday, August 3rd. It opens at 7:00 PM with Sguardi Aperti / Cilento Lab, the public presentation of the work conducted during the residency days; at 9:00 PM, one of the most recognizable names on the Neapolitan theatre scene, Mimmo Borrelli, will perform Il gelo. Two different yet complementary offerings: on one hand, the creative process shared with the public, and on the other, auteur theatre brought to the stage by a performer with a strong personality.
The Perito stop should be viewed within the overall program of the sixth edition, which alternates between great Italian performers and experimental companies. The 2026 calendar includes, among others:
One of the distinctive features of this festival in Campania is the choice of spaces: squares, churchyards, open spaces, paths, and panoramic viewpoints become both the auditorium and the stage. In Perito, this means experiencing the historic center in a different way, with the audience walking from one point of the village to another, and performances scheduled during the cooler hours, from sunset onwards. It is also a way to tell the story of inland Cilento, often left out of coastal tourist circuits, without rhetoric and using the tools of live performance.
The format appeals to those looking for a summer evening different from the usual food festival: spectators from neighboring towns, vacationers from the Cilento coast willing to head inland, and fans of contemporary theatre and dance. Capacity in the villages is necessarily limited, so it is advisable to inquire in advance about reservations and presales, managed through the official festival website and the Vivaticket circuit. Those who want to explore further can combine the Perito evening with one of the other stops: in twelve days, the festival covers much of Cilento, from the coast of Agropoli and Acciaroli to the villages of the Alburni mountains.
In 2026, CilentArt Fest returns to Perito on Monday, August 3rd, as part of the twelve-day sixth edition of the festival, scheduled from August 1st to 12th in eight municipalities of the province of Salerno. The day in Perito has a dual nature: first, the public presentation of Cilento Lab, the residential theatre workshop that the festival hosts in Perito from August 1st to 3rd under the guidance of Gabriele Vacis and Lorenzo Tombesi, presented at 7:00 PM under the title Sguardi Aperti / Cilento Lab; then, at 9:00 PM, the show Il gelo by and with Mimmo Borrelli.
The Perito stop is part of a program that in 2026 brings Dardust, Massimiliano Gallo, Massimo Lopez, Filippo Nigro, Peppino Mazzotta, and Paola Minaccioni to Cilento, in addition to dawn concerts and contemporary circus. The festival is produced by Teatro Pubblico Campano with the support of the Campania Region and the Ministry of Culture, under the artistic direction of Alfredo Balsamo and Vittorio Stasi. Information and reservations on the official website and on Vivaticket.
The festival's residential theatre workshop is held in Perito from August 1st to 3rd, 2026, led by Gabriele Vacis and Lorenzo Tombesi, culminating in the public presentation on August 3rd.
The festival also proposes the special project La Capra Selvatica – Non chiamatele erbacce, scheduled for August 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 10th.
Perito is located in inland Cilento, in the province of Salerno, at an altitude of about 465 meters. It can be reached by car along the provincial roads that climb from the Cilento coast towards the interior; those arriving by train or plane should factor in the final leg by car, as the village is not served by frequent public transport, especially in the evening.
