In the heart of the Aniene Valley, overlooking the Giovenzano Valley, the village of Ciciliano (in the province of Rome, Lazio) dedicates a festival every summer to its most iconic dish: the cicilianegliu raviolo. The Cicilianegliu Raviolo Festival is a deeply rooted community event that attracts visitors from across the Roman province and the neighboring towns of the Aniene area.

The raviolo, the absolute star

The recipe is proudly guarded by the local cooks: hand-rolled pasta wrapping a soft filling of local ricotta and seasonal greens, prepared according to Ciciliano tradition. The raviolo is served in two classic versions, with tomato sauce or with butter and sage, to fully appreciate its delicate flavor. Surrounding the signature dish, the stalls offer other specialties of the Lazio region: sheep arrosticini, sausage sandwiches with vegetables, craft beer, and a menu designed for children.

The festival is about more than just food: the evenings come alive with live music and group dances, while the traditions of Southern and Central Italy are revived through performances of pizzica, tarantella, tammuriata, and saltarello. Reaching its twelfth edition in 2026, the festival reaffirms the bond between the village and its culinary heritage, passed down year after year by local families.
