The village lights up with emotion through illuminations, markets, and music

Christmas Lights in Ucria is the series of Christmas events that brings the small town of Ucria to life every December, nestled among the woods of the Nebrodi Park in the province of Messina, Sicily. With the evocative subtitle "The village lights up with emotion," the event is promoted and organized by the Municipal Administration and was created with the goal of bringing the entire community together for the holidays, restoring the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a mountain Christmas to the historic center.
The Christmas Lights in Ucria program stands out for its inclusive nature: every age group finds space and attention in the calendar of initiatives. For the little ones, there are inflatables and creative workshops, while the elderly are treated to social gatherings and themed concerts that celebrate the village's memories and traditions. For young people and the entire community, the village fills with markets, music, tastings of local products, and the unique atmosphere created by the illuminations.
The most anticipated moment of the festival is the Christmas tree lighting, a true symbol of the start of the holidays, which draws families, children, and visitors to the square to share the first sparkle of the lights. It is the moment when Ucria literally "lights up with emotion," kicking off weeks of events that color the streets and squares of the historic center.
The event is part of the broader tradition of Christmas celebrations in small Sicilian villages, where Christmas is above all an opportunity for meeting and sharing. In Ucria, a town of a few hundred inhabitants overlooking the Nebrodi hills, the illuminations and markets become a way to keep the village's identity alive and offer residents and visitors an authentic experience, far from the crowded big cities. Local gastronomy, tastings, and music complete a picture that blends faith, folklore, and human warmth.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Christmas Lights in Ucria have not yet been announced. As this is a recurring Christmas event promoted by the Municipality of Ucria, the festival is expected to return during the holiday season, featuring the usual illuminations, markets, and activities for children and families. We recommend checking the official municipal channels for updates.
The events take place in the historic center of Ucria (ME), in the main squares and streets of the town.
Ucria can be reached by car from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (exits on the Tyrrhenian coast, such as Brolo-Capo d'Orlando or Patti), continuing along the provincial roads that climb into the Nebrodi mountains. The nearest train station is on the Tyrrhenian line, from which you can continue by car towards the hills.
The festival is held during the Christmas season in December. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced.
Outdoor events in the municipal Christmas program are generally free to attend.
