BazArt: Apulian creativity comes to life at Castello Volante

BazArt is a market-festival of Apulian creativity held in the heart of Corigliano d'Otranto, a village in the Grecìa Salentina area of Lecce province. The event takes place at the stunning Castello Volante, a 16th-century fortress that transforms into a vibrant creative hub for an entire weekend. Conceived by BigSur in collaboration with CoolClub and Multiservice Eco, the event is part of the Borgo Volante project, supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Puglia Region.

A hub for illustration and self-publishing

The beating heart of BazArt is its market, where thirty selected exhibitors occupy the castle's noble halls. Illustrators, designers, small publishing houses, artisans, and local producers showcase works crafted from natural or recycled materials, where stories and visions take shape through unique illustrations and handmade artifacts. It is a showcase that celebrates ethical practices, traditional craftsmanship, material reuse, and the contemporary creative spirit of the Salento area.

Art, cinema, music, and gastronomy

Beyond the market, the program weaves together various artistic languages. The days are filled with film screenings, live drawing sessions, book presentations, exhibitions, and meetings with authors and publishers. Music is also a key feature, with concerts and performances accompanying visitors until the evening. On the culinary front, the terraces and the Nuvole bistro offer aperitifs and tastings that highlight authentic, organic local flavors, blending high-quality cuisine with zero-mile products.

An event spread throughout the village

BazArt extends beyond the castle walls, reaching into the village of Corigliano d'Otranto by involving the InfoPoint, the municipal library, and local associations like Magma. The result is an immersive itinerary that connects historical heritage, contemporary culture, and the local community, offering visitors a deep dive into Puglia's creative identity.
