The masked parade that brings the historic center to life with color
The Chiusa di Pesio Carnival is one of the most beloved traditions in the winter calendar of this town in the Province of Cuneo, located at the entrance to the Pesio Valley at the foot of the Piedmontese Maritime Alps. For one afternoon, the streets of the historic center fill with confetti, costumes, and music as the community gathers to celebrate the carnival tradition together.
The heart of the festival is the traditional masked parade, which begins at Piazza Carlo Mauro, the meeting point for all participants. From there, the procession winds through the town streets, passing along Via Turbiglio, Via Roma, Via Garibaldi, Piazza Cavour, Via Tommaso Vallauri, Via Giovanni Mauro, Piazza Cesare Battisti, Via Mondovì, and Vicolo Filanda, before returning to the square. Children and adults are warmly invited to participate in costume and let their imagination run wild.
At the end of the parade, the festivities continue in Piazza Carlo Mauro with entertainment, music, and a communal snack provided by local associations, making the event a perfect opportunity for the whole town to come together. Over the years, the parade's entertainment has been organized by local groups such as the Sant'Antonino Parish Animators and various spontaneous local collectives.
Far from the large historic Piedmontese carnivals, the Chiusa di Pesio event remains an authentic village festival, built from the ground up thanks to the volunteer work and passion of local associations. It is a chance to rediscover the joy of a day spent as a community in a village that preserves a cozy historic center and the charm of the Cuneo valleys. Participation is free and open to everyone.
