Three evenings of roast porchetta and music in the village of Chiozza, in the Garfagnana region
There is a corner of the Garfagnana where, every July, the air fills with the aroma of slowly roasted porchetta: this is Chiozza, a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione di Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca, nestled among the woods and mountains of the Serchio Valley. This is home to the Porchetta Festival, a local feast that reaches its 23rd edition in 2026 and has become a staple of the Garfagnana summer.
The heart of the festival is, naturally, the porchetta: pork roasted according to tradition, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, fragrant with herbs and spices. Dinner is served starting at 7:00 PM under covered areas set up in the village, accompanied by typical dishes from the Garfagnana mountain cuisine. It is genuine food, made of simple and hearty flavors, designed for those who want to enjoy real porchetta in an authentic setting, far from passing trends.
Beyond the food, the Chiozza Porchetta Festival is all about socializing: every evening is enlivened by live music and dancing, with orchestras and bands that get everyone, young and old, up from their tables. It is the classic Tuscan village feast, where food and celebration go hand in hand and where the entire community gathers for a few summer nights. A perfect opportunity for visitors exploring the Garfagnana who are looking for the most genuine local experience.
The hamlet of Chiozza is located in the territory of Castiglione di Garfagnana, one of the best-preserved walled villages in the valley, dominated by its medieval fortress. Attending the festival is also a great excuse to discover this corner of the Tuscan mountains, with its stone villages, hiking trails, chestnut groves, and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines in the background. The festival takes place even in case of rain, thanks to the covered areas, and maintains its clear and proven formula year after year.
The Chiozza Porchetta Festival returns in 2026 for its 23rd edition, scheduled from Friday, July 24th to Sunday, July 26th. Once again, the hamlet of Chiozza, in Castiglione di Garfagnana, transforms for three evenings into a meeting point dedicated to taste and conviviality.
Dinner is served starting at 7:00 PM, with roast porchetta as the star, accompanied by traditional Garfagnana dishes. Each evening is enlivened by live music and dancing. The festival takes place even in case of rain.
The dates for the 2026 edition are confirmed by the official Garfagnana tourism portal: July 24, 25, and 26, 2026, with dinner served from 7:00 PM and live music every evening. The detailed program of the evenings (orchestras and guest musical groups, any side events) is usually announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival: it will be updated here as soon as it is made public.
