About Chiostri e Inchiostri

At the end of July, the historic center of Noci, in the province of Bari, transforms into a grand open-air literary salon. Chiostri e Inchiostri is a midsummer festival that brings books, authors, talks, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts into the cloisters and gnostre—the small, hidden courtyards tucked away in the alleys of the old town. Four evenings of free events featuring over one hundred appointments and hundreds of national and international guests.

A literary festival among the cloisters of Noci

Every year, in midsummer, the historic center of Noci, a village in the Murgia region of Bari (Apulia), becomes the stage for Chiostri e Inchiostri, the midsummer literary festival conceived and organized by the ACUTO Cultural Association. For four evenings, the small squares, cloisters, and especially the characteristic gnostre—the small communal courtyards hidden among the alleys of the old town—fill with words, visions, encounters, and performances.

Literature, performing arts, and visual arts

The festival weaves together three souls: literature, with book presentations, dialogues, and thematic talks; performing arts, with theater, live music, and readings; and visual arts, with exhibitions and installations set up in the spaces of the historic center. Each edition revolves around a central theme that runs through the more than one hundred scheduled events, drawing writers, journalists, artists, and figures from the Italian and international cultural scene to Noci.

The Chiostri e Inchiostri Opera Prima Prize

Since 2025, the festival has also hosted the Chiostri e Inchiostri Opera Prima Literary Prize, dedicated to debut works of fiction by emerging authors aged 18 to 38. The technical jury is chaired by Nicola Lagioia and supported by expert readers and a popular jury, reflecting the festival's ambition to give a voice to the new generation of writers.

An Apulian village to experience

Strolling through Noci during the festival means discovering one of the most evocative villages in the Murgia dei Trulli, with its lime-washed gnostre and medieval alleys. The meetings take place in the evening, when the heat subsides and the historic center comes alive; admission to the events is free, subject to availability. An appointment that combines quality culture with the promotion of the Noci area and Apulia.

Chiostri e Inchiostri — edition 2026

The seventh edition of Chiostri e Inchiostri returns to Noci from July 23 to 26, 2026, with four evenings of meetings, presentations, talks, exhibitions, and shows in the cloisters and gnostre of the historic center. The full program with authors and guests will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival.

The seventh edition of the midsummer literary festival Chiostri e Inchiostri will be held in Noci (BA) from Thursday, July 23 to Sunday, July 26, 2026. As per tradition, the historic center will host four days of meetings with authors, book presentations, thematic talks, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts, all with free admission. The detailed schedule for the 2026 edition, including the full list of guests, will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.

Programme Chiostri e Inchiostri 2026

The full program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published in its entirety: the organizers will release the detailed schedule, including authors, times, and locations, in the weeks leading up to the festival. However, some events are already confirmed.

Chiostri e Inchiostri Opera Prima Prize — 2nd edition

The literary prize dedicated to debut works of fiction by authors aged 18 to 38 returns. The technical jury is chaired by Nicola Lagioia and composed of Antonella Lattanzi and Paolo Di Paolo, with coordination by Antonella Liuzzi. Cash prizes include 2,000 euros for the winner, 600 euros for the runner-up, and 400 euros for the third place. The three finalists will be announced by the end of June 2026, and the winner will be proclaimed during the festival.
