The Locorotondo stop of the Valle d'Itria opera festival, set among trulli and Mediterranean music
The Valle d'Itria Festival is Puglia's most important opera event and one of the most respected opera festivals in Italy. Founded in 1975 and organized by the Paolo Grassi Foundation, it is historically based in Martina Franca, but has always radiated its programming throughout the villages and masserie (fortified farmhouses) of the Murgia plateau. Every summer, a selection of concerts reaches the towns of the Valle d'Itria, and in 2026 it also visits the Town of Locorotondo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, known for its characteristic concentric layout and homes with pitched 'cummerse' roofs.
The Locorotondo event is titled Mediterranean Concert and will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 9 PM in the courtyard of the Leonardo Trulli Resort, in Contrada Semeraro, immersed in the countryside surrounding the town. The stars of the evening are the young talents of the "Rodolfo Celletti" Belcanto Academy, the advanced vocal training school that the Festival dedicates to the new voices of the international opera scene. The recital is designed as a journey through the sung Mediterranean, featuring pages by Georges Bizet, Jules Massenet, Gioachino Rossini, and Charles Gounod.
The 52nd edition of the Festival, under the artistic direction of composer Silvia Colasanti, is dedicated to the theme "The Mediterranean: cradle of myth, crossroads of cultures, a sea that welcomes." The Locorotondo concert is part of the widespread "Mediterranean in Music" series, four events that bring music into masserie, cloisters, and churches of the territory, seeking a dialogue between classical repertoire and the landmarks of Apulian identity.
An opportunity to combine the discovery of an internationally renowned opera festival with the charm of one of Puglia's most beloved landscapes.
On July 16, 2026, at 9 PM, the Leonardo Trulli Resort in Locorotondo hosts the Mediterranean Concert, the Locorotondo stop of the "Mediterranean in Music" series of the 52nd Valle d'Itria Festival. The evening takes place in the resort's courtyard, amidst the countryside and trulli of the Valle d'Itria, in an intimate atmosphere that brings the audience closer to the performers. Tickets from 5 to 15 euros, on sale online and at the Festival box office.
