The Carnival celebration for little ones in the heart of the Florentine Chianti
The Children's Carnival is one of the most beloved events of the carnival season in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, located in the heart of the Chianti region, in the province of Florence, Tuscany. Unlike large-scale carnivals with monumental floats, this event retains an authentic and family-friendly spirit: it is born from a desire to entertain and delight children, and is built entirely by volunteers from the Pro Loco San Casciano, who create magnificent papier-mรขchรฉ works every year.
The day begins in the morning with the Magic Train, which offers a fun tour through the streets of San Casciano starting at 11:00 AM: a journey filled with colors, laughter, and surprises at every turn, designed especially for children. In the afternoon, from 2:30 PM, the most anticipated moment arrives with the parade of allegorical floats, which winds through the historic center in an explosion of imagination, music, and confetti.
Each edition features new and fun themes inspired by children's favorite characters. The town streets fill with masks of all kinds and colors, with entire families joining in the festivities. The Children's Carnival has become a traditional appointment for the San Casciano community, uniting young and old in a day of lighthearted fun.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco San Casciano in collaboration with the Municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa and supported by local sponsors. Admission is free, in the true spirit of a popular festival. The Children's Carnival represents one of the many moments that animate the life of this Chianti village, blending tradition, conviviality, and a focus on families.
Situated on the hills between Florence and Siena, San Casciano in Val di Pesa is a town rich in history and culture, immersed in the Chianti landscape. The 2026 edition, organized by the Pro Loco San Casciano in collaboration with the Municipality and supported by ChiantiMutua ets and various sponsors, took place on Sunday, February 15, 2026 (with a backup date of February 22 in case of bad weather). The most significant novelty was the participation of floats coming from Cerbaia, in addition to those from San Casciano.
Starting at 11:00 AM, the Magic Train took children on a fun tour of the town; from 2:30 PM, the parade of allegorical floats took place through the streets of the historic center, featuring Super Mario and Lilo & Stitch themes, filled with imagination, music, and confetti.
