The traditional parade of allegorical floats in Piazza Marsilio Ficino
The Children's Carnival is one of the most beloved traditions of Figline e Incisa Valdarno, a town in the province of Florence, located in the heart of the Tuscan Valdarno. Every year, during the Carnival season, the historic center is filled with color, music, and joy thanks to the traditional parade of allegorical floats that winds through Piazza Marsilio Ficino, named after the famous humanist philosopher born in Figline.
The event is designed primarily for the little ones: children in costume crowd the square to watch the floats, which are built with care and imagination. Confetti, streamers, and the joyful atmosphere typical of Carnival set the stage for an afternoon of celebration that involves the entire community of this Valdarno town in Tuscany.
The event is organized by the Oratorio Don Bosco and the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta, with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Figline e Incisa Valdarno. The floats traditionally depart from the Oratorio before reaching and parading through Piazza Marsilio Ficino, where the crowds gather. The festival spans several dates, usually including Sundays in February and Shrove Tuesday, the grand finale of the Carnival.
Attending the Children's Carnival is also the perfect opportunity to discover Figline, an ancient town in the Upper Valdarno known for its porticoed square and local traditions. On parade days, traffic in the historic center is generally restricted, with temporary closures during the event hours.
The 2026 Children's Carnival in Figline e Incisa Valdarno featured four events in Piazza Marsilio Ficino: the Sundays of February 1, 8, and 15, and Shrove Tuesday, February 17, starting at 2:30 PM. The highlight was the traditional parade of allegorical floats organized by the Oratorio Don Bosco and the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta, with the patronage of the municipality. On parade days, traffic closures were implemented in the historic center, roughly from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM, to allow the festivities to take place.
