Chientina Rural Festival

A festival that tells the story of rural life

The Chientina Rural Festival is one of the most authentic events of the summer in Terricciola, in the Province of Pisa. It takes place in Chientina, a village of just over a hundred inhabitants immersed in the hills of the Valdera, in the heart of rural Tuscany. For an entire weekend in June, the village transforms into an open-air stage dedicated to the traditions of the Pisan countryside: kitchen aromas, music, games, and the spontaneous conviviality that is the true secret of this festival.

Local flavors along the village streets

The heart of the event is the table. The streets of Chientina fill with stalls and refreshment points where you can taste local gastronomic specialties: traditional Tuscan dishes, grilled meats, pasta with classic sauces, seasonal side dishes, and wine from the Pisan hills. It is the same convivial spirit that, a few weeks later, animates the famous Bisteccata della Chientina, when dozens of tables are joined along the main street and hundreds of people, often strangers until a few minutes before, end up becoming friends around the same plate.

Folklore, games, and activities for everyone

The Rural Festival evokes the peasant folklore of the past with a program designed for all ages. During the day, there are games and activities for adults and children, entertainment, and moments that bring to mind the rhythms and pastimes of country life. Everything is organized by volunteers from the Associazione Amici della Chientina, who have been managing the festival for years under the patronage of the Municipality of Terricciola.

The stars above the Valdera

The most characteristic aspect of the festival arrives at sunset. Far from city lights, the sky of Chientina becomes the stage for a special evening: in collaboration with the Alta Valdera Amateur Astronomers Observatory, it is possible to enjoy stargazing, guided by enthusiasts who explain constellations and planets. An experience that combines rural tradition with the charm of the night sky.

Music under the stars

In the evening, the festival continues with music and DJ sets that enliven the village until late, turning the streets of Chientina into an open-air dance floor. It is the perfect way to end a day made of good food, tradition, and sociality in one of the most authentic villages in Tuscany.
