Traditional masks Bosolin and Madlinin dla Creusa parade through the historic center of Ceva
In the heart of the Tanaro Valley, where Piedmont fades into Liguria, the Municipality of Ceva (province of Cuneo) celebrates its Carnival every year: one of the most cherished and well-attended events in the local calendar. For a few days, the historic center becomes a large open-air stage, where masks, costumes, and floats bring the streets and squares to life with music and confetti.
The absolute stars of the festival are the two traditional masks of Ceva, Bosolin and Madlinin dla Creusa, figures that embody the popular spirit and identity of the Monregalese community. Accompanied by city officials, the masks lead the procession and represent Ceva in parades in neighboring towns, such as Mondovì, in a spirit of carnival twinning that spans the entire Monregalese region.
The Ceva Carnival is the result of the hard work of numerous local organizations: the "G. Borsi" Oratory, the Municipality of Ceva, the CFP Cebano-Monregalese, El Fuego Latino, the Palio dei Rioni Association, A.N.A. Ceva, and Cascina Inverso. The meeting point is in front of the Oratory, from which the colorful procession winds through the town streets to the town hall square, where the day continues with games and concludes with a snack for everyone.
The Ceva Carnival is, above all, a festival for children. Preschools and primary schools organize celebrations with songs, masks, and dedicated activities, while the parade and games in the square involve families and young people in a carefree atmosphere. It is an event that, as local administrators often note, unites generations and neighborhoods around the town's traditions.
The Ceva Carnival is held in the town's historic center: meeting point in front of the "G. Borsi" Oratory, parade along the town streets, and conclusion in the square in front of the town hall, in the heart of Ceva (CN).
The event takes place during the Carnival period, between mid and late February, with the main parade in the afternoon and school-dedicated celebrations in the preceding days.
Participation in the parade and games in the square is free and open to all.
Ceva can be reached by car via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Ceva exit) and by train via the Ceva railway station, on the Turin-Savona line.
