About CMUR

The Cervino Matterhorn Ultra Race is the high-altitude trail run that takes place entirely above 1900 metres, around the unmistakable pyramid of the Matterhorn. Based in Breuil-Cervinia, in the municipality of Valtournenche, it offers four routes – from 16 to 70 kilometres – designed for every level of fitness, amidst the panoramic trails, glaciers, and pastures of the Aosta Valley. An now international event that attracts runners from all over Europe.

Running Beneath the Matterhorn

The Cervino Matterhorn Ultra Race (CMUR) is one of the most spectacular ultra trails in the Alps: it takes place entirely above 1900 metres altitude, at the foot of the Gran Becca, as the people of the Aosta Valley call the Matterhorn. The race base is in Breuil-Cervinia, a hamlet in the municipality of Valtournenche, in the upper Aosta Valley.

Four Routes for Every Athlete

The event offers distances suitable for all levels, from experienced runners to amateurs taking their first steps in mountain trail running:

  • CMUR 70 — 70 km and approximately 5000 metres of positive elevation gain, the main event, which can also be tackled in pairs along trails and glacial sections;
  • CMUR 50 — approximately 47 km and 2900 metres of elevation gain;
  • CMUR 30 — approximately 28 km and 1800 metres of elevation gain;
  • CMUR 15 — 16 km and 700 metres of elevation gain, ideal for those running at altitude for the first time.

A Unique Natural Stage

The courses traverse the most famous panoramas of the Valtournenche: the Blue Lake reflecting the Matterhorn, the high-altitude pastures, and the glaciers of the Plateau Rosa. It is this combination of technical difficulty and absolute beauty that makes the CMUR an internationally renowned event for the trail running community.

The event is organised by the company Cervino Sport Events, based in the hamlet of Maën in Valtournenche.
