The highest mountain cinema festival in Europe, between Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche
Cervino CineMountain is the highest international mountain cinema festival in Europe. It takes place between Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche, in the Municipality of Valtournenche, at the foot of one of the world's most iconic mountains, the Matterhorn, in the heart of the Aosta Valley.
The program features documentaries and films selected from hundreds of works from dozens of countries, with previews, matinees, evening events, and meetings with the protagonists. Screenings are held in multiple venues: the Congress Center and the climbing gym in Valtournenche, spaces in Breuil-Cervinia (including the Palatenda and Lago Blu), and extend to the nearby villages of Chamois and La Magdeleine.
The competitive heart of the festival lies in its awards: from the prestigious Grand Prix des Festivals — considered the Oscar of mountain cinema — to the Montagnes du Monde, Montagne d'Italia, and Montagnes Tout Court awards, as well as technical prizes. The international jury brings together film and culture professionals, alongside the jury from the CAI, the Italian Alpine Club.
Beyond the screenings, Cervino CineMountain is a meeting place for cinema, mountaineering, science, and art: each edition hosts major names in mountaineering and adventure, and offers a theme for reflection on the present and future of the Alps. An event that the Aosta Valley Region promotes as an international cultural showcase.
The 29th edition of Cervino CineMountain returns from July 25 to August 1, 2026, between Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche, in the Municipality of Valtournenche. For the first time in its history, the festival adopts a guiding theme: the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists proclaimed by the UN, a choice that speaks directly to the pastoral identity of the Aosta Valley.
The visual identity for 2026, created by artist Tullio Macioce, is a narrative triptych that blends pastoral elements and Alpine landscapes. The international jury is presided over by Alessandra Principini and supported by the CAI jury. Among the announced guests are mountaineers Matteo Della Bordella and Hervé Barmasse, BASE jumper Freddy Montigny, Paralympic athlete Francesca Porcellato, and writer Franco Faggiani.
The 2026 program includes competition screenings, previews, matinees, and guest talks, distributed across the venues in Valtournenche, Breuil-Cervinia, Chamois, and La Magdeleine. Theme of the year: International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.
The detailed screening schedule will be published in the weeks preceding the festival on the official website cervinocinemountain.com. Film submissions remain open until June 2, 2026.
Valtournenche and Breuil-Cervinia can be reached by car from the A5 motorway (Châtillon-Saint-Vincent exit), driving up the Valtournenche valley. Bus services connect the valley to Aosta and Châtillon.
Between late July and early August. 2026 edition: July 25 - August 1.
Matinees, CVA Mountain Kids, and the closing event are free. For other screenings: 5 euros per entry or 20 euros for a pass; CCM Circuit 5 euros per entry or 15 euros for a pass. Tickets can only be purchased at the venue, without reservation.
