Open-air theatre performances for families, between Lake Gover and the park of Castel Savoia in Gressoney-Saint-Jean
Fairy Tales in the Woods is the summer series of open-air theatre performances for families in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the heart of the Walser community of the Aosta Valley. Every weekend, from July to August, classic fairy tales are adapted and staged outdoors, in charming natural settings.
The performances take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 5:30 PM and last approximately 45 minutes. The locations vary: the picturesque Lake Gover, nestled in the woods above the village, and the park of Castel Savoia, the historic castle that was the summer residence of Queen Margherita. In case of rain, the events move to the Wonplatz marquee at the same time.
The theatre company presents a different title each weekend, drawing from the vast repertoire of fairy tales and reinterpreting them with humour: from the archer of the woods, Robin Hood, to Lewis Carroll's Alice in an "Archeo-Alice" version, to a gallery of wicked and mischievous characters. Performances designed for children but capable of entertaining adults too.
Promoted by the Gressoney-Saint-Jean Tourist Office, the series is free and no booking is required: just bring a blanket to sit on. A simple and poetic way to experience the mountain summer, combining the magic of theatre with the beauty of the woods and meadows of the Lys Valley.
The 2026 edition of Fairy Tales in the Woods takes place in Gressoney-Saint-Jean from July 10 to August 30, with events every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 5:30 PM. The performances, lasting about 45 minutes, are free admission and no booking is required: in case of rain, they are held at the same time under the Wonplatz marquee. Each weekend features a different fairy tale, set between Lake Gover and the park of Castel Savoia.
