About Gressoney Musical Summer

For over forty years, the Gressoney Musical Summer has brought great international chamber music to the Parish Church and Castel Savoia in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. A season of free concerts — piano, opera, organ, film music, tango — organized by the Association of Friends of Music, in the alpine setting of the Lys Valley at the foot of Monte Rosa.

Forty Years of Chamber Music in the High Mountains

The Gressoney Musical Summer is one of the longest-running and most beloved chamber music festivals in the Aosta Valley. Founded in 1981 and now in its fortieth edition, it is organized by the Association of Friends of Music of Gressoney and offers a rich calendar of free concerts every summer featuring Italian and international performers, with a particular focus on young emerging musicians.

Two Exceptional Settings

The concerts are held in two symbolic locations in the village: the Parish Church of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, with its intimate acoustics ideal for piano and organ, and the evocative Castel Savoia, a summer residence commissioned by Queen Margherita of Savoy, overlooking the Belvedere meadows. Some events extend to nearby Gressoney-La-Trinité and Issime, and to the Gover lake.

A Varied Program

The program ranges from the great piano repertoire (Liszt, Chopin, Ravel) to opera, from Bach's baroque organ music to film scores, and even tango with bandoneon and harp. A variety that makes the festival accessible and fascinating even for those who do not regularly attend concert halls.

The Musical Summer is one of the defining cultural events of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in the province of Aosta: an opportunity to combine a mountain holiday with the discovery of great music, in a setting of rare natural and architectural beauty.
