International chamber music encounters between the Parish Church and Castel Savoia
The Gressoney Musical Summer is one of the longest-running and most beloved chamber music festivals in the Aosta Valley. Founded in 1981 and now in its fortieth edition, it is organized by the Association of Friends of Music of Gressoney and offers a rich calendar of free concerts every summer featuring Italian and international performers, with a particular focus on young emerging musicians.
The concerts are held in two symbolic locations in the village: the Parish Church of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, with its intimate acoustics ideal for piano and organ, and the evocative Castel Savoia, a summer residence commissioned by Queen Margherita of Savoy, overlooking the Belvedere meadows. Some events extend to nearby Gressoney-La-Trinité and Issime, and to the Gover lake.
The program ranges from the great piano repertoire (Liszt, Chopin, Ravel) to opera, from Bach's baroque organ music to film scores, and even tango with bandoneon and harp. A variety that makes the festival accessible and fascinating even for those who do not regularly attend concert halls.
The Musical Summer is one of the defining cultural events of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in the province of Aosta: an opportunity to combine a mountain holiday with the discovery of great music, in a setting of rare natural and architectural beauty.
The 2026 edition of the Gressoney Musical Summer renews its appointment with international chamber music encounters, organized by the Association of Friends of Music.
The season begins on Sunday, July 26th, with a concert by pianist Anna Kravtchenko (music by Liszt and Chopin). On July 28th, in the Parish Church of Gressoney-Saint-Jean, the opening concert "La Grande Lirica" will take place, featuring soloists from the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra and soprano Gabriela Nurchis (Mozart, Mascagni, Puccini, Rossini, Donizetti, Massenet, Verdi, Bellini). The calendar continues throughout the summer with free concerts between the Parish Church and Castel Savoia. The complete program is published on the official website gressoneymusica.it.
