Two days of masked fun in Piazza dell'Unità in Centobuchi
In the heart of Centobuchi, a populous hamlet of Monteprandone in the province of Ascoli Piceno, the Carnival is a village festival that centers on children and families. For two afternoons, Piazza dell'Unità transforms into a large open-air play area, filled with colorful masks, confetti, and lots of entertainment. It is one of the most cherished winter events for the community of southern Piceno, just a few kilometers from the coast of San Benedetto del Tronto.
The program is built around children's fun: baby dance, face painting, balloon art, building with maxi Lego, interactive inflatables, creative workshops, and giant wooden games entertain the square all afternoon. There are also moments dedicated to treats, with young pastry chefs starring in an interactive workshop, and performances by local dance schools. The highlight is on Shrove Tuesday, at dusk, with the traditional lighting of lanterns to bid farewell to Carnival.
The event is promoted by the association Carnevale e quant'altro, a historic local volunteer organization, with the patronage and support of the Municipality of Monteprandone. The collaboration of social cooperatives, pastry shops, and local associations makes the festival a true moment of cohesion for Centobuchi and the entire Monteprandone community, within the broader framework of Carnival celebrations that also involve the historic village of Monteprandone.
The Centobuchi Carnival traditionally takes place over two days, typically the Sunday and Shrove Tuesday that close Carnival, starting in the early afternoon in Piazza dell'Unità. Admission is free: confetti and sweet samples are distributed free of charge to participants.
The 2026 edition of the Centobuchi Carnival was held over two afternoons, Sunday, February 15, and Tuesday, February 17, in Piazza dell'Unità starting at 3:00 PM. It coincided with the 30th anniversary of the association Carnevale e quant'altro, founded in 1996.
Both days featured a rich program of entertainment for families, with moments dedicated to sweets in collaboration with Pasticceria Cruciani and an interactive pastry workshop. Shrove Tuesday concluded, as tradition dictates, with the lighting of the lanterns at dusk.
Presentation by Antonella Ciocca; entertainment by Chronos Animazione. Confetti and sweet samples distributed free of charge to participants.
