One hundred years of the 'black feathers' in Campiglione Fenile, featuring choirs, parades, and remembrance
Founded on April 11, 1926, the Alpini Group of Campiglione Fenile reached its 100th anniversary in 2026. To celebrate this milestone, the small town in the Pellice Valley, located in the Province of Turin at the foot of the Cottian Alps, hosted an intense weekend of festivities from May 22 to 24, 2026. Three days that united the hamlets of Campiglione and Fenile around a key symbol of Piedmontese identity: the hat with the black feather.
The centenary celebrations were organized by the Campiglione Fenile Alpini Group, led by group leader Marco Reale, in collaboration with the National Alpini Association - Pinerolo Section, presided over by Mauro Buttigliero. The heart of the event was the inauguration of the Group's new headquarters in Piazza San Germano: a space designed to preserve the memory, traditions, and community spirit of the 'black feathers' and pass them on to future generations.
In keeping with Alpini tradition, the days alternated between solemn moments—the flag-raising, the laying of a wreath at the War Memorial, the outdoor Mass with the presentation of awards to members with over fifty years of service—and convivial moments, from choral concerts to the grand community lunch. Institutional guests were also present, including numerous local mayors and various Alpini groups from the area.
The soundtrack for the centenary was provided by traditional Alpini choirs: the ANA Bric Boucie Choir and the Ten. Giulio Bracco Revello Choir, who performed in the Church of Campiglione. A spectacular backdrop was provided by the Sbandieratori di San Martino Alfieri (flag-wavers), while the community lunch was accompanied by the music of Sabrina Salvestrin. A program that skillfully blended ceremony, folk culture, and local festivities.
Unlike traditional food festivals, the Centenary of the Campiglione Fenile Alpini Group was a major civic and commemorative event, tied to a unique milestone in the town's history. The celebrations involved the entire community of Campiglione Fenile and the Pellice Valley, confirming the role of the Alpini as guardians of the memory and identity of this corner of Piedmont.
The celebrations took place in Campiglione Fenile (Postal Code 10060), a town in the Pellice Valley in the Province of Turin, Piedmont. The heart of the event was in Piazza San Germano, where the new Alpini Group headquarters were inaugurated, and in the churches of Campiglione and Fenile for the choral concerts.
