The Gamba d'Oro fun run through the streets of Cavaglio d'Agogna
Amidst the fields and farmsteads of the rice-growing plains, the town of Cavaglio d'Agogna (Province of Novara, Piedmont) hosts one of the most popular stages of the Gamba d'Oro running circuit: Cavaglio Running. This is not a race for elite athletes, but a non-competitive event open to everyone, where the joy of moving and being together matters more than the stopwatch. Children, families, experienced runners, and Sunday walkers find themselves side-by-side along the village streets and country paths.
The Gamba d'Oro is a historic circuit of non-competitive running events that spans the provinces of Novara and Vercelli, extending into the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area. Established in the 1970s, it features dozens of events held between spring and autumn, rewarding the most consistent participants with an overall ranking at the end of the season. For the many local runners, it is much more than just a race calendar: it is a social event that connects the municipalities and Pro Loco associations throughout the region.
Cavaglio Running always offers two tracks of different lengths, so that everyone can participate at their own pace: a more challenging route for those looking to stretch their legs, and a mini-loop designed for children, families, and those who prefer a leisurely walk. The town center streets and the country lanes surrounding Cavaglio d'Agogna provide the backdrop for a relaxed run immersed in the agricultural landscape of the Novara area.
The best part of Cavaglio Running often comes after crossing the finish line: upon returning, there is a refreshment station and, for evening editions, the traditional final aperitif that turns the event into a true village festival. It is the moment when people share stories about the run, award the largest groups, and toast together. Organized by the Pro Loco of Cavaglio d'Agogna, the event confirms how grassroots sport in this part of Piedmont serves as a formidable glue for the community.
