The festival of the mountains and outdoor activities at the foot of Monte Catria
The Catria Outdoor Festival is an event dedicated to the mountains and outdoor activities that takes place in the hamlet of Chiaserna, in the Municipality of Cantiano (province of Pesaro and Urbino), in the heart of the Marche Apennines. The event is held in the Chiaserna fairground, the space traditionally dedicated to the historic Horse Fair, at the foot of Monte Catria, one of the most beloved peaks of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines.
The event is organized by the Associazione Cantiano 360, founded in 2025 from the union of local operators and entities — a social wine cooperative, bars, restaurants, and farms — with the aim of promoting the inland mountain areas and a model of sustainable tourism. The first edition took place in May 2025 and attracted numerous families and enthusiasts to Chiaserna, laying the groundwork for an event that has now become a fixture in Cantiano's spring calendar.
The program combines sport, nature, and conviviality. Among the experiences offered to participants:
An integral part of the festival are the food stalls with typical products from the Cantiano area: Chiaserna bread, sour cherries and morello cherries of Cantiano, truffles, and Catria farm beer, along with cured meats, local meats, and traditional polenta. The evenings are accompanied by live music, in a festive atmosphere that unites the community and visitors.
The Catria Outdoor Festival is an ideal opportunity to discover the Marche Apennines in an active and conscious way, far from the most crowded destinations. Between sport, nature, and gastronomy, the event tells the identity of Monte Catria as a living ecosystem and a common good, capable of bringing together traditions, work, and the future of one of the most authentic areas of the Marche.
The second edition of the Catria Outdoor Festival took place on May 2nd and 3rd, 2026, in Chiaserna di Cantiano (PU). The event, promoted by the Associazione Cantiano 360, re-proposed the successful format of the first edition: trekking, e-bike and horse excursions, workshops for families, and activities dedicated to the nature of Monte Catria.
Among the announced offerings were the Apennine forest animal trail with the "naturalist's passport" designed for children, the trail dedicated to the flora and landscape of Catria, and nature excursions with listening to the songs of Apennine birds. Food stalls with local flavors and live music were also present.
Two-day event format:
The detailed program with times and registration for individual activities was released by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
The event takes place in the Chiaserna fairground, a hamlet of Cantiano (PU). By car, you can reach Cantiano from the SS3 Flaminia; from there, continue towards Chiaserna and Monte Catria. The nearest train station is Cagli/Fabriano, with onward travel by car.
Admission to the festival is free. Many guided activities (trekking, e-bike, horse excursions, workshops) require registration and have sold out in previous editions: it is advisable to book in advance by contacting the Associazione Cantiano 360.
Wear hiking clothing and footwear. The area is at altitude at the foot of Monte Catria: bring a jacket even in spring. Food stalls with typical local products are available.
