The traditional agricultural and livestock fair of the Canavese region, featuring cattle exhibitions, tractors, and local farm-to-table products.
The Castellamonte Spring Agricultural Fair is one of the most cherished events in the Canavese agricultural calendar. Every year, at the end of April, the historic center of the town of Castellamonte, in the Province of Turin, transforms into a large open-air market dedicated to agriculture, livestock, and local produce. The event is deeply rooted in local farming traditions and celebrated its 76th edition in 2024, boasting a history spanning over seventy years.
The heart of the fair is the Livestock Exhibition, which brings together Valdostana, Piedmontese, and Black Pied cattle. Breeding bulls, cows, and heifers are presented to the public in a dedicated area: livestock registration takes place in the morning, and awards are presented by a jury of veterinarians and expert breeders. It is a major draw for breeders from Castellamonte and its surrounding hamlets, who come here to showcase the fruits of their labor.
The streets of the town center host numerous stalls featuring small-scale producers, artisans, and hobbyists. There is also an exhibition and sale of agricultural machinery and equipment, flowers, plants, and local farm-to-table products. The Alpini and the local Pro Loco association liven up the day with culinary specialties, such as traditional apple fritters, while the scent of local products accompanies visitors as they stroll through the stands.
In Piazza della Repubblica, the little ones take center stage with Grisulandia, an interactive course set up by the National Association of Volunteer Firefighters. Children can transform into little firefighters and enjoy a fun, educational experience. This focus on families makes the fair a perfect day out for all ages.
More than just a commercial exhibition, the Spring Agricultural Fair represents a moment of identity for Castellamonte and the entire Canavese region. It promotes local agriculture and animal husbandry, highlights regional products, and strengthens the bond between the community and its rural roots. Organized by the Municipal Department of Agriculture and the Fair Committee—composed of local breeders—it is an unmissable event for anyone wanting to discover the rural soul of Piedmont.
The 2026 Spring Agricultural Fair brought the historic center of Castellamonte to life on Sunday, April 26.
