Allegorical floats, masks, and entertainment in the historic center of the gulf
The Castellammare del Golfo Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in the province of Trapani. Every year, in the period leading up to Lent, the historic center of this Sicilian town overlooking the gulf fills with color, masks, and music for several days of festivities that delight both adults and children. The event centers on the traditional parade of allegorical floats, accompanied by costumed groups, dance schools, and choreography organized by local gyms and associations.
The heart of the Carnival is the traveling procession that winds through the town: the parades usually start from via Segesta and continue along via Vasile, via Crispi, and corso Garibaldi, turning the streets into a living stage. The floats, handcrafted by local master builders, playfully reinterpret cartoon characters, cinema icons, and popular imagery, accompanied by music and entertainment that draw thousands of visitors from the town and surrounding areas.
One day is dedicated entirely to the little ones with the Children's Carnival, held at the Regina Margherita municipal park: afternoons filled with games, shows, soap bubbles, mascots, and entertainment, culminating in the highly anticipated best costume award. It is the most heartwarming moment of the festival, designed for families and children in costume.
The Castellammare del Golfo Carnival is the result of voluntary work by associations and citizens. The construction of the floats and the organization of the event involve groups such as the Sicilia Smile association and Colori in Movimento ETS, with the support of the Municipality, the Civil Protection, and local law enforcement. It is an event that unites the community and represents one of the most important social moments of the year.
Known primarily as a summer destination for its sea and the nearby Zingaro Nature Reserve, Castellammare del Golfo is one of the pearls of Sicily's northwestern coast, in the Province of Trapani. The Carnival offers the chance to discover the town in a different season, experiencing popular traditions and the hospitality of a community that gathers in the streets of the historic center.
The 2026 Castellammare del Golfo Carnival celebrated its 30th edition with four highly attended days of festivities, from February 16 to 22. Monday, February 16, was dedicated to the little ones with the Children's Carnival at the Regina Margherita municipal park, featuring soap bubbles, fire-eater shows, and mascots.
The allegorical float parades took place on Tuesday the 17th, Saturday the 21st, and Sunday the 22nd of February, starting around 3:30 PM from via Segesta towards corso Garibaldi. Four floats were featured, inspired by the Smurfs, Pokรฉmon, the circus world, and the theme of the Queen with the Castle, accompanied by the "Cittร di Castellammare del Golfo" marching band, the Calandra & Calandra duo, and choreography by local gyms. The festival was organized by the Sicilia Smile association with Colori in Movimento ETS and with the support of the Municipality.
By car: A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, exit Castellammare del Golfo. By train: Castellammare del Golfo station (Palermo-Trapani line); the historic center is a few kilometers away. Nearest airports: Trapani-Birgi and Palermo-Punta Raisi.
The parades wind through the historic center, from via Segesta towards corso Garibaldi. The Children's Carnival is held at the Regina Margherita municipal park.
The event takes place in the streets and is free to attend. We recommend arriving early on parade days to find a good spot along the route.
