San Vito Lo Capo... Beyond Summer, It's Christmas is the festive event that, in the heart of winter, brings life and warmth back to one of Sicily's most beloved towns. Known worldwide for its Caribbean-like beaches and the Cous Cous Fest, the municipality of San Vito Lo Capo, in the province of Trapani, chooses to extend its tourist season with a packed calendar of events running from December 8th until Epiphany, also involving the hamlets of Macari and Castelluzzo.
The heart of the event is the large Sand Nativity set up in Piazza Santuario, created by international sculptors specializing in the ephemeral art of sand. Surrounding this scenic installation are festive lights, decorated trees, and the Christmas village. In the nearby Stalla del Santo, the San Vito Parish sets up the evocative Monumental Nativity, open for daily visits, while the Sanctuary Museum houses precious depictions of the Nativity. Castelluzzo adds the tradition of the living nativity scene.
The program alternates tastings of sweets and local specialties, theatrical shows, sports tournaments, dance school performances, and artistic and creative recycling workshops. Music takes center stage with sacred, gospel, and pop music concerts, marching bands, dixieland groups, and the traditional presence of bagpipers who fill the town's streets with an old-world atmosphere.
The Christmas Markets in Piazza Santuario, with their decorated wooden stalls, invite visitors to enjoy Christmas shopping and discover local crafts and typical products. The entire town is dressed in lights, creating an enchanted atmosphere that draws visitors and families alike.
The festival concludes in style on January 6th with the flight of the Befana and the arrival of the Three Wise Men at the Sanctuary, a symbolic moment that bids farewell to the holidays. An event that confirms how San Vito Lo Capo, in Sicily, is a fascinating destination not only in summer but also during the most magical time of the year.
The Municipality of San Vito Lo Capo has not yet published the dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition of the "Beyond Summer, It's Christmas" festival. Based on the tradition of previous years, the event is expected to return to enliven the town starting in early December, with the usual Sand Nativity, the Monumental Nativity in the Stalla del Santo, the markets in Piazza Santuario, and events dedicated to families, up until the flight of the Befana on January 6th. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
San Vito Lo Capo can be reached by car from the A29 Palermo-Trapani-Mazara motorway, taking the Castellammare del Golfo exit and continuing along the SS187 and SP16 roads. The nearest airport is Trapani-Birgi (about 60 km away), followed by Palermo Punta Raisi (about 100 km away). In winter, bus service is limited: a car is recommended.
The festival typically takes place from early December to January 6th. Most events and visits to the nativity scenes are free. It is recommended to check the official program of the Municipality of San Vito Lo Capo for updated times and details.
