The widespread craft beer festival in the heart of the Teramo hills
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Castellalto Craft Beer Festival is one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the Abruzzo summer. Every year, at the beginning of August, the historic center of Castellaltoโa small town in the province of Teramo overlooking the Vomano valley and known as the 'Balcony of Abruzzo'โdresses up to welcome thousands of craft beer enthusiasts. Originally a local initiative, the festival has grown to become, according to the organizers, the longest-running and most important event dedicated to craft beer in Central Italy.
The format is that of a widespread festival: performances, stands, and tasting areas are spread across the various squares and open spaces of the medieval village, including Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza Municipio, the Belvedere, and Parco di Villa Vento, the latter being dedicated to street food. Visitors stroll through alleys and enjoy panoramic views while tasting dozens of different styles: bottom-fermented beers like Pils, Helles, and Dunkel, top-fermented beers like Blanche, Dubbel, Bitter, and IPA, as well as spontaneous fermentations. Recent editions have featured over 250 tap points with hundreds of labels from Italian and European craft breweries.
Every evening offers live concerts in multiple areas simultaneously, with bands, cover acts, and DJ sets ranging from rock to folk, and Latin music to popular sounds. Alongside the beer, great emphasis is placed on local gastronomy and traditional Abruzzese products, complemented by street food options. The closing Sunday traditionally includes a lunch opening with the 'Grand Festival Lunch'.
Organized by the Real Gambrinus Association, the Beer Festival is now an integral part of the identity of Castellalto and the entire Teramo area. For one week, the village becomes a landmark for enthusiasts and curious visitors from all over Abruzzo and neighboring regions, combining the culture of craft beer with the discovery of a territory rich in history, landscapes, and traditions.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Castellalto Craft Beer Festival have not yet been made official. The event, dedicated to craft beer in the historic center of Castellalto (province of Teramo), is traditionally held in the first ten days of August with craft breweries, street food, and live concerts. Updates on breweries, schedules, and musical evenings will be published on the festival's official channels.
Castellalto can be reached by car from the Teramo-Giulianova motorway exit (A24) or the Roseto degli Abruzzi exit (A14), then continuing inland. During the festival, a shuttle service operates from the parking lots to the historic center.
Admission to the event is free. Beer and food can be purchased at individual stands.
We recommend downloading the official festival app to navigate the squares and check the program and beer list. For accommodation, there are facilities in the neighboring towns of the province of Teramo and along the Adriatic coast.
