Mountain running in the Senio Valley Apennines
The Casola Valsenio Trail is now a regular fixture on the Romagna off-road running calendar. It takes place in Casola Valsenio, a small municipality in the province of Ravenna nestled in the upper Senio Valley, where trail running has almost become a tradition. The race, organized by the amateur sports club Te' Bota Team, challenges runners on the trails, ridges, and woods of the Faenza Apennines, in a natural environment that alternates technical sections, challenging climbs, and scenic views of the Emilia-Romagna hills.
The event offers two distinct courses, designed to welcome both competitive athletes and those who want to experience it in a more accessible way:
The race is run in semi-self-sufficiency for water and food, according to the UISP trail Emilia-Romagna regulations: each participant must carry their own water supply, food reserve, and the mandatory safety equipment required for the mountain environment.
The Casola Valsenio Trail is not an isolated event: it is one of the stages of the Trittico Valle del Senio, a trail running circuit that takes place over several seasonal events in the valley's municipalities. The Trittico challenge rewards the most consistent runners, capable of tackling the different stages and their respective elevation gains, with final combined circuit rankings compiled at the end of the races.
The event's headquarters is Parco Sandro Pertini in Casola Valsenio, the start and finish point for both races. Here you will find services for participants, medical assistance, and the traditional post-race pasta party, a convivial moment that concludes the day. The finisher medal award ceremony, category rankings, and the welcoming atmosphere of the town make the Casola Valsenio Trail an event with a strong community spirit, attracting enthusiasts from all over Romagna and beyond.
The 2026 edition of the Casola Valsenio Trail was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Casola Valsenio (RA), valid as the second stage of the Trittico Valle del Senio. The event was fully booked well in advance, confirming the race's popularity in the Romagna trail running scene.
Start and finish at Parco Sandro Pertini, with the competitive race of approximately 21 kilometers and over 1,100 meters of elevation gain accompanied by the fun run. At the end of the day, the usual pasta party and category awards ceremony.
