The mountain bike granfondo on the trails of the Bolognese Apennines
The Sasso MTB Race is now a regular fixture on the Emilia-Romagna mountain bike calendar. Hosted in Sasso Marconi, in the Province of Bologna, the race takes place every September and attracts around a thousand people, including professional athletes, amateur cyclists, hikers, and entire families. Organized by the Green Devils Team led by Massimo Cipriani, the event has grown edition after edition to become one of the most beloved off-road events in the Bolognese Apennines.
The course winds its way along the trails of Monte Mario, Monte del Frate, and Monte Sole, crossing the Pliocene Contrafforte Natural Park, one of the most picturesque areas of the Bolognese hills. It's a real trail, made up of technical climbs, single tracks, and descents through the woods, capable of challenging even the most experienced bikers without forgetting those simply looking for a beautiful ride in nature.
The Sasso Race is not just about competition. Alongside the timed race, the Sasso Ride allows cycle tourists and hikers to tackle the same scenery at a more relaxed pace, while the day before, the Sasso Baby Race involves over two hundred youngsters from the federal categories. The Ca' de Testi Sports Centre serves as the headquarters with the start, finish, team area, awards ceremony, and the unmissable pasta party that concludes the day in a festive atmosphere.
Included in national off-road circuits (Rampitek Series, Biciscout Cup, and Italian Supersix Races), the Sasso MTB Race represents a sporting excellence of the Sasso Marconi territory and the entire Emilia-Romagna region. An opportunity to discover the Bolognese Apennines on a mountain bike, amidst sports, breathtaking landscapes, and the typical hospitality of the Emilian hills.
