The traditional Carnival returns to Casalvieri, featuring allegorical floats and masks in Piazza San Rocco
After a few years of silence, the Casalvieri Historical Carnival is finally back to enliven the streets of Casalvieri, a village in the Comino Valley in the province of Frosinone, Lazio. This highly anticipated community event is reborn thanks to the joint efforts of the Pro Loco and the Municipal Administration, who were keen to bring one of the most deep-rooted popular traditions of the Ciociaria region back to the streets. The event is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026.
The heart of the festival is the traditional parade of allegorical floats and costumed groups, which sets off from Piazza San Rocco at 2:00 PM to sweep through the town center. The floats, crafted by local associations and volunteers, feature fun and satirical performances, reviving the atmosphere of the "Carnival of yesteryear," full of color, music, and shared cheer.
The Casalvieri Carnival is not just for children, the true stars of the day, but involves the entire community in a moment of carefree, shared fun. The parade is surrounded by a rich program of side events, including food and wine stalls, entertainment for the little ones, and DJ sets that keep the party going until evening.
Nestled on a gentle hill at the entrance to the striking Melfa Gorges, on the eastern side of the Comino Valley, the town of Casalvieri preserves a medieval historic center and a cultural heritage rooted in the Roman era, when the village was known as Domus Olivieri. The town is also famous as the "city of balloons," thanks to its artisanal businesses known worldwide. The Carnival is a perfect opportunity to discover this authentic corner of Ciociaria and experience the warmth of its people firsthand.
