About Carnival in the Square

Every February, the Carnival in the Square brings the village of San Clemente di Galluccio, in the heart of the upper Caserta region, to life. Organized by the Pro Loco Galluccio with the support of the local municipality, the festival attracts families and visitors with a parade of allegorical floats through the town center, school children in costume, music, dancing, and games for the little ones. The highlight is the historic Cantata dei Mesi, a folk tradition passed down through generations, accompanied by food stalls serving local delicacies.

The Carnival of San Clemente di Galluccio

In the heart of the upper Caserta region, the village of San Clemente di Galluccio celebrates the Carnival in the Square every year. It is one of the most cherished festivals in the municipality of Galluccio, located in the province of Caserta on the northern borders of Campania. For an afternoon, the streets of the village fill with color, masks, and joy, bringing together people of all ages in a tradition that unites the various districts of the area.

The parade of floats and children

The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats that winds through the town center, accompanied by nursery, primary, and middle school children dressed in costume. Music, dancing, and games for children animate the town, creating a festive atmosphere that involves the entire community.

The Cantata dei Mesi

The core identity of the event is the Cantata dei Mesi, an ancient folk performance in which the twelve months of the year are personified and sung in verse. It is a rural tradition passed down from generation to generation, recounting the cycle of the seasons and farm work: a cultural heritage that persists in Galluccio and remains the star of the Carnival.

Flavors and conviviality

The culinary dimension is not to be missed: along the route, food stalls are set up by local committees, including the Sant'Antonio Abate Festival Committee, where you can taste traditional dishes and sweets. Galluccio, a land of wine and hazelnuts (the municipality is part of the 'Cittร  del Vino' and 'Cittร  della Nocciola' associations), offers a great opportunity to discover typical local products.

A community-wide celebration

The Carnival in the Square is organized by the Pro Loco Galluccio with the patronage of the Municipality, in collaboration with the RiGenerazione Association and the patronal festival committees of the districts of Sipicciano, San Clemente, Vaglie, Galluccio, and Calabritto. This synergy between associations and districts makes the event a true moment of cohesion for the entire town, in the spirit of the folk traditions of inland Campania.
